Why I need a new home

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

2-3 Year old spayed female Rottweiler “Reba” rescued from Miami Dade Animal Control. She is in need of a new home.

I’ve tried to rehome her myself once before , but after a few months she attacked the family cat. They were aware of her prey drive when they adopted her.

I initially rehomed her because she fought with my female dog in the home or rather my female dog fought with her. The family that adopted her has a male Rottweiler that she gets along with beautifully. She's also been to the dog park and played well there...However it's always been male dogs at the park. So, she was the queen bee.

She loves to sleep in bed with you and is a snuggle bug. She spends her weekdays in the kennel while away from the home and does just fine with it. She should be monitored closely in the home because she is a chewer. She loves toys and will pick those if they are available.

She is a very submissive dog and was obviously abused at some point in her life. She has a hesitation with men, but will immediately roll onto her back if a female reprimands her. She plays with kids well (I have a 5 year old and the woman I rehomed her to has 3 young children as well). Reba just wants to be included. She really is a good dog and if I didn't have my aggressive female at home "Sparkle Cupcake" (my daughters dog)...I would definitely try and keep her. We also recently rescued a kitten that was hit by a car. So, that's an additional issue in my own home.

She has a high prey drive. So, she will not be placed in a home with small dogs or cats. Large male dogs are fine because she loves to play. However; they should always be kept separate when being fed, because she can be food aggressive. She was skin and bones and terrified when I got her a year and a half ago. So, I would imagine that plays a part in the food aggression.

The family that previously adopted her also kept her isolated away from everyone in the home...Including the dog...in a covered kennel in the garage for a week after the incident where she attached their cat. So, she is really confused and hurt right now. In my home she also has to be in the kennel far too much because of the cats and the other female dog. I try to take turns, but it’s still far too much time and I worry about how this will affect her state of mind. She seems to be adjusting okay, but she really needs a family of her own.

I'd prefer that she go to an experienced Rottweiler owner. She has a lot of the Rottweiler breed characteristics and being unfamiliar with the breed would not be a good fit for her.

She will be adopted on a return contract.
