My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

YOU MUST HAVE AN APPROVED APPLICATION IN ORDER TO SET UP A TIME TO MEET OUR PETS.

Newt is a sweet and tender 8 pound, 6 year old who is a little thin. He was surrendered to us by a person who said they found him within their fenced yard, hanging out happily with her other dogs.

He looks a bit like a Min Pin/Chihuahua mix and has a cropped tail.

Newt is a tiny bit shy and submissive right at first, kind of acting like he does not think he really deserves your kind attention, but he is friendly to strangers and warms up quickly.

He certainly enjoys attention, laps, and tummy rubs but he is not at all demanding. He has been quiet in his kennel, waiting patiently to be let out. However, we are betting that this darling little guy will perk up a lot once he gets more comfy in a home and will be a very affectionate sweetie who likes to follow you around the house and stay close.

He is so snuggly and fun once he is comfy. He is fine with being carried around.

While he acts humble around people, he is confident around other dogs and likes to strut his stuff a bit. He has been good with the other little rescue dogs here but would probably be best if paired with a submissive pup if he has a companion dog in his new home.

Newt gets happy when he sees the leash and loves to go on walks. He keeps his room clean, holding his pees and poops until he gets outside. He has not marked inside, what a good boy!

He just had a dental cleaning and has nice white teeth.

He does not seem to be used to toys, but he is playful with people friends.

Newt seems like a pup who may have been in a nice home for most of his life before he fell on hard times. His recent neglect has left him skinny and heartworm positive but he will fatten up quickly on the good quality food he is getting. Now that he is on monthly heartworm preventative (as all dogs should be on), the heartworms will gradually clear up and he will be fine. He is free to come home with you now, just needs to continue the monthly preventative, which also functions as a gentle treatment.

Sweet Newt was good with a 6 year old child he recently spent time with. He would probably prefer a quieter home, with children who are gentle if there are any in his new home. He would be fine as an only dog or as a companion to a submissive natured housemate.
