My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Layla is one of the sweetest creatures ever to walk on this green earth and she navigates it with one of the most soulful faces. This girl loves to love but she needs to trust first. When she first meets someone, she is quite barky and needs some reassurance and time. Once she trusts, she is the happiest, goofiest snuggle bug that you can imagine. She is hilarious and is so fun to have around. She’s also a talker which is super funny. When it’s dinner time or you’ve come home from errands she doesn’t hesitate at all to tell you how happy she is! She is a healthy girl who we took in from a homeless woman that was living in her car with Layla. Understandably this wasn’t sustainable so she surrendered Layla and her brother to us. She is spayed, up to date on DAPP, rabies, has been de-wormed and is microchipped.

Child appropriate? Layla would do best in a home without children as she needs time to warm up to new people and she hasn’t had much experience with children. I don’t think she would be aggressive towards them, just more uncomfortable.

Other dog appropriate? Layla is quite barky when first meeting other dogs but she LOVES them. She is a total spazz monkey who plays with the two dogs that she is currently living with. Once she gets to know and trust a dog, she will play and snuggle all day.

Cat appropriate? Layla is currently living with a kitty. She likes the idea of chasing him but is learning to leave him alone and do his own thing. She has even been caught peacefully napping with him a few times. She has gotten a few face swats and is still interested in him but not in an aggressive manner. She could do well with a bold kitty that wouldn’t hesitate to swat her but maybe not for a cat that is inclined to run and hide.

How is she with strangers? She is barky with most new people but she does warm up and is either apathetic or very affectionate and sweet with them. Layla loves cuddling, playing and training with her people and people she trusts.

What is her play style? Layla loves to play tug and wrestle with her foster brothers. She’s got a great, gentle play style and is great about taking breaks in between short bursts of play to drink some water, or just chill for a few minutes before re-starting play.

Does she like toys? She loves toys! She loves to fetch with anything...doesn’t have to be a ball. She likes walking around with toys in her mouth or using them as a prop during playtime.

Does she like water? When the weather is hot she loves splashing in her kitty pool and playing in sprinklers. She’s been to both the lake and river and has tried swimming a few times, but isn’t completely comfortable with it yet. With more practice she could make a great water dog.

Does she like car rides? Yep! She is totally fine in the car and has a ton of experience.

Exercise level needed? This monkey has a lot of energy! I would put her as a high energy pup who needs to romp hard daily either offleash or in a large yard. She isn’t hyperactive through--just strong and with good energy.

Behavior issues? Layla is barky when she is unsure of something but is doing very well when redirected. She is slow to warm up to new people and new dogs and is also barky on leash when something makes her uncomfortable.

Medical issues? Nope, she is a healthy girl. She is spayed, up to date on DAPP, rabies, has been de-wormed and is microchipped.

Skills? Besides cuddling, Layla is good at sit, watch-me, down, leave-it, stay, find-it, fetch, and with basic recall. She’s also extremely treat motivated and will do just about anything you ask of her if food is involved!

Special/endearing things? Layla is one of the sweetest creatures ever to walk on this green earth. She has one of the most soulful faces in the world with the most beautiful eyes that melt you in a second. She loves to love and wants to love but she needs to trust first. Once she trusts, she is the happiest, goofiest snuggle bug that you can imagine. She is hilarious and is so darling and fun to have around. She’s also a talker which is super funny. When it’s dinner time or you’ve come home from errands she doesn’t hesitate at all to tell you how happy she is!

Ideal home? Layla’s ideal home would be with a family who is training-savvy and training motivated so they can continue her training to minimize her stress and barkiness. Proper introductions with people and dogs are essential as well as being present with her while on walks in case she needs to be reassured or redirected. A quieter suburban neighborhood or even semi-rural would be a dream for this girl just to minimize encountering stressors during day-to-day life. She would love to live in a home with another dog or two and because of this we are REQUIRING that her adoptive home have at least one other playful dog. She is a social girl and although she can relax when home alone, she prefers to be with people and/or her dog buddies! She loves to run off leash so an active family that has access to a quiet and safe outdoor area or hiking area would be fabulous.
