My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Willow. Here's her story...

This little darling has coming back to MMR after being adopted in 2016.  Willow was adopted by a wonderful woman who gave her a great life, and she was loved very much. Willow's mom was a big supporter of our rescue, and was a previous adopter of a Shih Tzu. She was a cherished and spoiled member of her family. Sadly, her happiness was short lived. To the shock of her family and those in the rescue, her wonderful adoptive Mom passed away suddenly, and had no known health issues. So it was very shocking loss to everyone. Her immediate family members stepped up immediately and took in both Willow and her adopted sibling. We are heart broken for Willow's family, and for her pups. We grieve for the loss of such a wonderful woman who loved all animals. Her dogs were her life. So as hard as her family tried to make it work, Willow is not adjusting well. Even though Willow gets along with other dogs, she is having a difficult time 'playing nice' with the resident female Pug who lives there. Willow gets along with everyone else in the home, and loves people, but sometimes dogs just don't like each other. So as much as her new family wants it to work out so they can keep her within their family, it just isn't a fit and they can't live together in harmony.
Willow's family made the sad and very hard decision to have MMR help them find her a new home.  This was an incredibly emotional decision, but we share in their belief that this is what is best for Willow.  This is what her Mom would want, and we are happy to find her another lucky owner. Willow is, and has always been, very well cared for. Any family lucky enough to be selected to adopt her, will be very fortunate.

Willow is a Maltese Mix who weighs about 10 pounds. She is completely vetted, and up to date on vaccines, and hear worm negative.  She is also spayed.  She is approximately 2.5 years old, based on our vet's estimates. When Willow first came into rescue, we were told she had a very slight limp on her right front leg. The shelter didn't know what caused it or how she got it, but said she got had no issues getting around. Once in our care, several x-rays and tests were done to find out what could be done to fix it, or if she was in pain. Our vet diagnosis was that she has an old injury to the elbow that was never cared for, and did not cause her any pain. Willow's injury was old, and it had healed on its on. There was so much scar tissue that surgery could not correct it, nor was it necessary.  Make no mistake, this does not slow Willow down at all. She can run, jump and go up and down stairs like any other dog. We make mention of this to potential adopters so that it's clear that it's been addressed, and that she will not need surgery now or in the future.  She is on a inexpensive joint supplement, and at times will take an anti inflammatory.

Willow is a low to medium energy little girl.  She LOVES to be held and cuddled, and will curl right up next to you when you are sitting on the couch or a comfy chair.  She will also pick out her favorite spot on the couch and her favorite doggie bed once she get comfy in a new home.

MMR believes that Willow would do best in a home with someone who can be at home with her more often than not.  Someone who works from home, or works part time would be perfect. Willow is both people and child friendly. She would do best in a family with teenagers, or with children over the age of 10.  Despite her dislike of one of her current siblings, she does enjoy the company of the other dogs. An easy going dog in the home would be ideal.  Willow's new family will need to give her some time and space to adapt to her new home.  She has been through so much in her short life, and now is dealing with the loss of her first 'Mom'.  IF you think you could be her new Mom or Dad, please fill out an application and request Willow.

My adoption fee is $350, which covers the cost of routine vetting, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, spay/neuter surgery, heart worm testing, my microchip, monthly heartworm prevention, monthly flea/tick prevention, and any transport costs if applicable.

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website:
http://www.muttsmatterrescue.com/foster_faq.html

MMR covers the vet care, food, and tools to get started. You supply the love. Fostering saves lives. Sometimes a foster home is the only thing standing between life and death.
