My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Chief, and this is my story….

Two months ago in Livingston, TN – Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) a Mutts Matter Rescue Partner, assisted in the rescue of twelve dogs, six horses and one cat found living in neglectful conditions. All of the animals were surrendered by the property owner to Animal Rescue Corps, and sent to qualified rescues.

Chief was one of the puppies found on the property that had inadequate shelter and no food or water. All of the dogs were chained to trees or posts with only dilapidated wooden or plastic crates on the ground for shelter. There five puppies from two litters, approximately 4 and 5 weeks old, were living outdoors in freezing temperatures. Chief was one of them. He was so emaciated that he probably would not have lived through the night. But thanks to rescue, Chief was saved and now has a bright future.

Chief just turned 4 months old. Chief is an inquisitive and smart puppy. He learns quickly and is loyal to his family.  He is very active, and needs a guardian who is firm and has the time to spend and work with him.  He can be stubborn, but responds very well to positive reinforcement. Typical of the breed, he is a protector of his space and family.  Around people, Chief will bark to alert his family of anyone that arrives to his home. Chief likes to be part of a pack. He enjoys playing with kids, but will need a home with older children. No young kids.  Chief plays well with other dogs, and has had the benefit of having a trainer as his foster to help show him appropriate behavior.  Chief is 40lbs already, and will be a big boy. He is crate trained and house trained. We are seeking adopters with experience with the breed.

The adoption fee for these dogs is $350 each, covers the cost of routine vet care. This fee DOES NOT INCLUDE spay/neuter. If the animal you are adopting is not already spayed/neutered , you will be required to sign a contract legally obligating you to have the animal altered. MMR can provide you with low cost spay/neuter resources at one of our many vet partners.

***Note that puppy adoption fees most often help generate revenue that goes towards older, special needs animals that need our help, surgeries, heartworm treatment, boarding costs, etc....all things that often result in adoptable dogs left behind to be euthanized. So adopting a puppy saves not just one life, but many!***

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website: http://www.muttsmatterrescue.com/foster_faq.html

MMR covers the vet care, food, and tools to get started. You supply the love. Fostering saves lives. Sometimes a foster home is the only thing standing between life and death.
