My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Panda Bear is an eight-year-old spayed female bi-black Sheltie. The first thing you notice when you watch her walk is her unusual gait. We did x-rays during her intake exam and found trauma to her right hip and left knee. Digital x-rays have already been sent to Colorado Canine Orthopedics to see if there are surgical possibilities for her. And we have started Adequan injections twice a week to see how much that will help, But the biggest help of all will be a serious weight loss program. Ten pounds is a lot for Bear to lose but with a combination of diet and gentle exercise, she can do it. Panda needs a very motivated foster and/or adopter to guide her through her rehab. She has had all the appropriate vaccines and bloodwork, etc. And RMCSR will be on board financially and medically to coach and cheer all along the way. But what she needs to know is that a family has committed to being with her through the unknown times all the way to the finish line. Could that be you?

In these last photos, you will see what happens when someone does not keep a double-coated dog (like a Sheltie) brushed out properly.  Poor Panda has red and inflamed skin from the dirt and matting over several months time.  She is going back to the vet this afternoon to check on her weight loss and re-submit her bloodwork to find out why she looks so crummy.  Was it just lack of coat care or could it be a thyroid deficiency?  Her T4 was low normal the last time it was checked.
