My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Apollo!!

He's a handsome approximately 7 year old boy looking for a home of his own.  His previous owner used him and a female he owned for breeding, and then moved and left them behind with a rescue as they were of no use to him anymore.

We've learned some more about this boy in just a short time.   For a dog who spent his whole life in a kennel, he's adjusted extremely well to being inside a home.  He is not your typical off-the-wall GSP. He's a pretty low key boy, content to be by your side and will follow you around the house or rest at your feet.

He's a lover.  He loves everyone he meets, male & female, & will lean on anyone nearby for lots of petting & ear rubs.  We were also told that his original owner had children, 3 & 6 yrs old, that Apollo interacted with on occasion & was fine with.  He listens well and sits nicely for his food, treats, & when its time to get his leash on.  He takes treats softly but loves to chew on toys.  He will pull every dog toy out of the basket until he finds just the right one.  He's not too fond of the crate (will bark) but is housebroken, so once he's given a little time to adjust to the environment of his new home he could be trusted home alone with free roam, allowing access to more rooms of the home over time.  His teeth tell the story of the many years he spent in a kennel.  Some are worn down, some are chipped & some are missing:(.  He likely spent lots of time biting and chewing the bars of his prison due to boredom, frustration, and desire to be close to his humans.

He's great with other dogs, male & female, young & old.  He's met lots of dogs at his foster home & doggie daycare too & hasn't had any issues whatsoever.  Although we haven't had a chance to witness his true prey drive with critters outside yet, he did point a cat at the vet's office so we believe a home without cats & small critters would be best.

He pulls on leash but walks nicely when a prong collar is used.  He respects a 4ft fence & baby gates inside the home.

He's about 60lbs, neutered, up to date on shots, microchipped & Heartworm negative, but tested positive for Lyme, roundworms & whipworms, all of which he is currently being treated for.  Who knows when the last time this poor boy had seen a vet.

We will post more info on him as it becomes available.  But if you want a sweet natured buddy to spend your days with, he's your man!
