My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I'm Sylvester and I'm 4 years old.  I was saved from a Hempstead Long Island shelter by The Canine Sanctuary and now I'm safe with them in Vails Gate, NY.  I'm waiting for a GSP savvy family to come along and take me home - wouldn't that be a great start to 2010!!!!!

To find out more information about me or if you think you might want to adopt me, please call Michelle with The Canine Sanctuary at 845-534-8414 or email her at
emilythepitbull@yahoo.com.

I once had my own family, but they took me to a shelter and didn't give a good reason for giving me up.  Luckily someone there loved GSPs and called The Canine Sanctuary to help me.

At The Canine Sanctuary, I've played with other dogs.  While I'm a bit rough and can be dominant, I'm not at all aggressive.  I like big dogs for sure and I've been introduced to a small dog too.  I'm not sure about the smaller ones, but I think I'll warm up to them - why not?  I do have a high prey drive, but since they are taking this introduction slow, like any experienced GSP owner would, they expect I'll be fine, but they are not sure how I'll do with cats - that may be a tougher challenge.

I'm housebroken and have been trained to a doggie door; however, it's been really cold here so my door's been closed.  That's ok for me - I can hold it until someone comes to let me out.  I'd rather be warm and cozy and wait a bit for a bathroom break than have a drafty breeze chillin my bones any day.

I'm crate trained and it would be recommended during my transition and adjustment period.  Since I'm only 4, I'm still young and have plenty of energy.  I need a home that wants to give me LOTS of exercise.  I love toys, but will chew them if I'm bored so I guess a family that will set boundaries and limitations would be good too (they made me write that - I guess they know what's best for me).   I'm very smart and have learned some basic commands and I even heel pretty well.

I've been neutered and am all set for adoption.

Of course like most GSPs, I'm cuddly, sweet and loving - can't you tell from my handsome picture?  I'm looking for a family that has lots of time for me, will give me plenty of exercise and time to settle into my new digs - and maybe give me some obedience training too, why waste all these smarts....  If that's you, please call Michelle at the number above and tell her you think your home is just the one for me!
