My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I’m Kelly. A Missouri girl turned Jersey girl. By now I’ll bet you’ve heard my story… I’m one of the MO 75. One of the 75 GSPs who lived at an unlicensed breeding kennel and the owner set fire to the entire property. I’m lucky. I was saved along with 75 other GSPs and made my way to NJ to find my new home. I’ve been in town since 3/15/09 and I’m doing great. All my foster families (yep there are a few who like to share me) can’t believe I came from a puppy mill. And I am making even more progress every day! I even have a BLOG! You can check out updates and see new pictures of me at: http://egspcrpkelly.blogspot.com/ My foster families say I’m very photogenic and I won’t argue… • I’m about 21 months old and still a playful pup. I weigh a slim 40 pounds, but my family says I’m just right. I’m perfect for my petite frame! • I’m housebroken and crate trained. I’ve never had an accident inside and sleep away happily in my cozy crate. I even eat in my crate. When I switch between my two foster houses, I put up a little protest about the crate, but quickly get back into the groove. Every once in a while I might complain if I hear someone in another room, but I stop when corrected. • I’m cautious when meeting new people, I like to sniff them and take my time warming up. I’m meeting lots of new friends and it’s getting easier, but everyone’s different so I’m careful. • I’m very curious. I love to explore and taste anything. As you can see, grass is a favorite part of my diet if I can sneak it in. I’m frisky and playful and will investigate anything new. Sometime, I get scared and run away fast, but come back quickly when I realize how silly I am. • I’m good with my other foster dogs. I love to play with them and am a typical GSP. Even though I’m small, I can pack a punch. I can take those big dogs down – boy do we have fun. My foster family thinks I’d do ok with quiet cats, but dogs and cats that are very small and frisky may not be able to handle my playful attitude. I’ve been around an older cat and don’t pay it much attention. I think a home with a male dog would be best as I seem to be a bit of a tomboy myself. • I’ve already seen the Jersey shore and loved the water and sand. It’s fun to have other doggie friends, but I wouldn’t mind being an only dog if I was part of an active family and could be included for all the fun. • I like to run in the yard and go for leash walks. Exercise is a must so I keep my girlish figure – I hear swimsuit season is near. • I’m most hesitant with fast movements so a home with young kids who may be too rough with me might not be the best place, but I think I’d make a great friend for a kid who is dog savvy. I’m sweet and love to snuggle and relax nicely when inside. However, I can be more cautious in confined spaces so obedience training is a must. My foster families say since I wasn’t properly socialized, training with my new family will help and when I’m cautious or scared – no coddling allowed. I have to get over my fears and this tough love stuff is working. • My foster families say I’m ready for a place of my own. They say I deserve the best. I’m a good girl and I can’t wait to be adopted! If you think you're that special one for me, please email the nice people who rescued me at: GSPrescueNJ@hotmail.com and ask for an adoption application.
