My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

It was the saddest day of my 2 years of life when I was left all alone without my collar or ID… didn’t my family love me anymore? I was on my own and on the road for what seemed like forever, hungry and cold… it’s really chilly up here in the Antelope Valley in January and February, especially when you don’t have a warm under-coat like most other dogs :(

On Valentine’s Day, I found my way to a house on a hill off Angeles Forest Hwy. I jumped down into the yard to visit a big Anatolian Shepherd Dog… he seemed friendly enough and I smelled WATER ;) The trouble was, after a quick sniff and a long drink, I couldn’t get back out... easy-peasy to jump down into the yard, not so easy to jump up and out ;) And then HOLY YOU-KNOW-WHAT… the lady drove up!! I was scared to death and raced back and forth across the yard so she couldn't catch me… how did I know if I could trust her? When she brought me something to eat, I figured she couldn’t be all that bad...

She brought a house that was just my size into the yard. I didn’t know what the heck it was and was afraid to go in, even for food, but later that night, when it got really cold, I got my nerve up ;) The next morning, I pulled the heavy blanket out of the house into the warm sun. The lady brought me breakfast… then lunch… then dinner… then a late night snack... man, was it good to have my belly full! She started calling me “Wally” because I'd come over the wall… “Cupid” or “Valentino” didn't fit me. I let her put a collar and leash on me because I already knew what they were, and showed her I knew how to sit and lay down, along with my favorite thing of rolling on my back for a belly rub ;) She tried to get me in the car but NO WAY was I going to jump in. She kept on trying, and after 3 days, I decided to take the plunge for a juicy piece of meat ;)

We drove for a little while and it wasn’t bad at all… I liked looking out the windows. We stopped at a place where somebody came out and waved a wand-thing over me… apparently, I didn’t have “a chip”, and the lady seemed pretty upset about it. A few weeks later, she took me back to the same place and we went in… I liked saying hi to everyone and their dogs. Since I was still a little skinny, the lady was surprised that I weighed almost 65 lbs… once I’m all beefed up and buff I should weigh close to 70 ;) Then I went to sleep…

When I woke up, I wanted to lick my sore you-know-what but couldn’t because of the big cone on my head. I recovered in no time and feel great now. Life’s been good up here on the mountain but the lady says I need a FOREVER home… the big dog decided he doesn’t like me too much and she has to keep us apart to be on the safe side. I have lots of energy and love to go on walks but pretty quiet and a little worried when I’m in the house… I tip-toe around and find things to sit and stare at for minutes (or more) at a time. The lady says I look like the RCA dog when I do it, whoever that is. I like to lay by the lady’s chair when she’s watching TV. I sleep in a crate in the house when it’s cold but otherwise I’m OK with sleeping outside… I just drag my rugs and blankets in or out of the house to my liking. FYI: in my new home, I think I'd prefer to sleep in the bedroom once I feel comfortable with my new people ;)

PS You might have noticed the cool collar I'm wearing in the photo.... the lady made it just for me and I get to take it with me to my new home ;)
