My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lydia. She is 5 1/2 years old and weighs 10.4 lbs. Lydia just gave birth to 3 healthy puppies! She is being fostered in Bunnell, FL.. Her Adoption Fee will be $350.

UPDATED BIO 04/24/2018: Lydia is one of 26 dogs pulled recently by a sister rescue group from a horrendous hoarding/backyard breeding situation. She is one of the 10 dogs that United Yorkie Rescue brought into our group.

Sweet Lydia was pregnant and only days away from giving birth when she was rescued. She gave birth a few days ago to 3 healthy little female puppies and both Lydia and her puppies are doing well.

Lydia is a great little mommy to her puppies. We want to allow her to nurture them as this will be the last litter of puppies this sweet girl will have. Once the puppies are weaned (approximately 6 weeks), it will be at least 6-8 additional weeks before she can be spayed. We feel it is in Lydia’s best interests, and also the puppies’ best interests, that she stay with them until they are adopted. The time newborn puppies spend with their mothers -- and also their littermates -- is crucial on so many different levels, from receiving the proper nourishment to learning necessary social skills for the future.

PLEASE NOTE the following special circumstances:

- Adoption applications are being accepted for Lydia; however, please keep in mind that it will be several months before she will be ready for adoption. Please be patient with our process in considering adoption applications for Lydia. Our primary interest is getting this sweet girl and her newborn puppies healthy so that they can continue to enjoy a wonderful life in loving, forever homes.

- UYR is reaching out to our friends, supporters and generous donors in the hopes of raising the thousands of dollars it will cost our group to get Lydia and her puppies healthy, as well as the 9 other dogs from the same hoarding/backyard breeding situation. They not only need to have their vaccinations updated, be neutered or spayed and have extensive labs, but they also need to emotionally heal from years of neglect. For the ones that are HW+, they will soon begin treatment which will last 4-5 months. If you have been moved by Lydia's story and her courage and resilience, please consider making a donation to UYR to cover vetting expenses and support our organization as we begin the long process of rehabilitating these precious little dogs.
