My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Callie! This adorable little pit mix is a perfect size for any home. She clearly has a winning smile and loves to hug the people she trusts. She would happily stand in one spot for hours if you'd be willing to stand there hugging her back.

Like many stray dogs who come from a shelter environment, nothing is known of Callie's background but we can surmise she did not receive a lot of care or socialization as she arrived rail thin and very fearful. She can be hesitant in new situations, although she attaches to some people immediately while others elicit more of a fear or distrust response. She is very playful and silly but she can be a bit mouthy when she gets excited, which is why we would not place her in a home with small children and we think her ideal home would just include adults. She is still working on her house manners and will require patience as she learns what is expected of her. She usually walks well on a leash, unless she gets overly excited.

Like most young pits, Callie will excel in an environment where she gets plenty of exercise, attention, and most importantly....LOVE. She really enjoys spending time with her people and would flourish in a home where someone is able to be with her a lot throughout the day. She would prefer a home where she doesn't have to spend too much time in a crate, but she does require supervision if left uncrated while she learns her new environment.

Callie did well with a young female dog that she was introduced to at the shelter but we would need to do a meet with any dogs in the home to make sure she is a match. She can be a little dominant in her play style but would probably greatly benefit from a balanced dog in the home to show her the ropes and help her burn off some energy. She adores chewing on stuffy toys and that is when she is the most relaxed and comfortable. She also enjoys riding in the car and loves to lean her head on your shoulder.
