My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Brutus is a handsome 2.5 year old Neapolitan Mastiff that is ready to be your man! Here are 10 things that Mr. B wants his new home to know:

1. I CAN’T GO TO A HOME THAT HASN’T HAD NEOS BEFORE. It’s super important that my forever family understands me, and why I do the things that I do. The people at the Bullpen are very serious about this, and will not consider applications without proper experience.

2. Like most Neos, I can be wary of strangers and need proper introductions to new people. Once we become friends, however, I want to be with you ALL.THE.TIME!

3. I don’t like little kids. They are too loud and rambunctious and unpredictable for my taste, and I don’t want to live in a home with them. I might be able to cohabitate with young adults that were 16 or older, as long as they weren’t too rowdy.

4. Before rescue, I lived in a home with a lab-mix and a Belgian Malanois and we all liked to play together. I think my perfect home would have a larger female dog that I could play with, and that wasn’t too bossy.

5. I generally ignore all the barn cats at the farm, so I might be able to cohabitate with a feline. However, I haven’t spent very much time around smaller dogs, so I’m not sure I’d like living with a dog that weighed less than 60lbs.

6. I may look big and tough, but really I’m kind of insecure. I get worried if my people are gone for too long, and will barrel through any enclosure to go find them. My best family will be committed to working with me on building confidence, and will understand that I can’t be left outside unattended for more than a few minutes.

7. I’m a total stickler for a schedule. I really enjoy it when things happen at the same time every day, and my perfect fit would be with a family that had a set routine. I feel most secure when I know what to expect.

8. Here are some of the things I love most: long walks, hanging out with people, playing with toys, riding in cars, and taking naps.

9. I am housebroken, crate-trained, and pretty good on a leash. I know basic obedience, but true to my neo-self, I am also stubborn and will pretend like I forgot.

10. I am current on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and neutered.

Ready to give Brutus the forever home of his dreams? Fill out our Adoption Application, located at bullpenrescue.org under the 'work with us' tab. We highly recommend that our potential adopters fill out an online application as soon as possible, as it greatly expedites the process of finding the right dog for your situation.

Our dogs are available for adoption nationwide but preference is given to adopters willing to do an in-person meeting. Please understand that our dogs are not adopted on a first-come, first-serve basis, but rather we strive for a "perfect placement" so we know that they will not be failed again.
