My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

8/3/18   Ok, ok, ok. Bear with me. I know I recently found out that I like playing with big dogs. But, I just found out that I really like swimming too! Well, at least Mom just found that out. We went down to the Northern Neck of Virginia where Annie lives. I got to meet Diesel, a boxer, whose Mom knows Annie’s Mom. We all went down to the boat landing on the Great Wicomico River to play in the water. At first I was really hesitant and just put in my toesies. Then I decided that since Annie and Diesel were in the water, I decided to bite the bullet and go all the way in up to my pretty little nose! Aren’t I brave??? I really liked it when Annie was swimming and bringing the stick back in to be thrown again. I’d meet her half way and try and take the stick from her. Then we’d playing dunkin’ doggers! I had such a great time I didn’t want to get out of the water when it was time to go! Yeah, I wouldn’t come when Mom called and she had to come down and get me. Boy, did I get an earful. But I got to swim for 5 days straight and I lost 4 lbs! So all of you who like the water, I might just be the dog for you!

7/6/18  Hi there, it’s me again. I have found out that I do like big dogs. Annie (a 2 yr. old black lab) is Mom’s four-legged niece and I’ve been playing with her when she visits. Although, she can be a little hard-headed at times. She’s a lab, what did you expect!?!? She will not take no for answer when I don’t want to play, so I have to be very emphatic. Get my drift? A lot of good that does, so I just go off to my room. I’ve also had a lot of fun playing with my recently adopted GSD foster sister, Fiona. It was especially fun when we would gang up on Annie!

It is funny that thunderstorms do not bother me but I will still get startled at times when the unexpected happens. I have a tendency to jump back, but as soon as Mom tells me it’s ok, I’m fine. We’re actually working on that some. We take walks in the Lowes by where I live. I’m skittish around the big carts and machines, but I’m a work in progress. I have to be honest. There is another reason Mom takes me to Lowes, other than the fact that she loves hardware stores. When Mom first got me, the vet told me to lose 5 lbs. I didn’t listen very well and I gained 15! HOLY MOLY!!

Depending on the circumstances and surroundings, I am still a little shy when meeting people for the first time. When I’m at home and new people come, I bark at them from a distance and then run the other way. Then I come back and get a little closer to them, then I bark and run the other way. By the third or fourth time of doing this, I’ll come up to them I let them scratch my head or chin and then we are good to go. When I’m at the adoption events, I really dislike when people rush up and just start petting me. Getting in my face, you know? But I either stand or sit next to Mom and suck it up. Mom tells me I’m a really good girl the whole time they are petting me, so I behave like a little angel. Ok, a big-sized angel. I really prefer when people come up to me quietly, stop and give me time to come to them. Mom thinks I might like men a little better because she says I seem to want to be close to them after they’ve petted me. I know I really like my Mom’s brother-in-law so I like to hang with him when he visits!

3/7/18  Hello there. My name is Mika and I’m used to living with 2 small Yorkies. However, the two-legged human tykes make me nervous. I am never sure what they are up to or about to do. To be honest, I’m not sure if I like any dogs bigger than me – haven’t really made up my mind. Since I’m indecisive, my foster mom thinks it would be best if I were the only big dog on campus.

I haven’t shown any prey drive so my foster mom thinks I would be ok with those really short four-legged fur balls. But she is not 100% sure. I went to the vet the other day for my vaccines and checkup. I passed everything with flying colors. I was a really good girl even when they did my nails. Trimmed, not painted. Although…

My foster mom has had me about a week and she says I’m nowhere near as nervous as when I first met her and I’ve been coming out of my shell the last couple of days. I’m starting to get a little frisky when I’m outside with her. Jumping around her and then running off, coming back and doing it again. I love the outdoors! Even in when it is misting! I sit out there with my head held high and love to feel the wind, sun and mist on my face! Since I’ve come out of my shell I do like to get lots of lovin’. Foster mom says I give sweet, soft kisses and I take treats gently.

I do have one tiny malfunctioning body part. I have urine incontinence. Well, had. Since receiving the Proin lifetime achievement award I haven’t had any oops. What do you mean it’s not an award? Is it a reward? No? But I get it twice a day for not peeing in my sleep. Is it at least an achievement? No? Well, I think I have achieved something! You mean the only thing I got right was the part about it being a lifetime? Yes! Humans, go figure... Anyway, it runs about $38 a month if you get them through the vet. Well, I’m worth it! Hey, you guys aren’t gonna give me a hard time about that too are you!?!!? Well, good.
