The beautiful, feminine Safari, an 11-year-old blue Chow Chow, was granted sanctuary by HALS Oct 2017.  HALS has provided sanctuary for Safari while her owner tried to find her economic feet. Her problems proved greater than her love for Safari and tearfully she surrendered Safari to HALS. Safari needs a new loving forever home.

The first bas relief of the Chow dates back to the Han dynasty to 150 B.C, over 2000 years ago.  The Chow is one of the oldest recognizable breeds of dog.  The Chows’ abilities run the gamut of work done by nearly all other breeds. The Chow is an unusually gifted breed of dog.  Keen intelligence, an independent spirit and innate dignity give the Chow a reserved and discerning nature. These characteristics do not prevent Safari’s being a warm, engaging companion who emotes her needs and feelings.  She has been an exemplary houseguest and good big sister to our other fosters.  Safari is always happy to see her leash and always happy to go on walks though long walks or great distances are not required. Safari would do better in a mature household with children no younger that 12. Safari loves to be outside on the patio on mild days.  She has clearly indicated a strong preference for pooing in her yard as opposed to the walk.

Safari is a healthy spayed girl up-to-date with all of her vaccinations.  She is house-trained and will ask to go out.  Safari is currently on monthly heartworm and flea and tick preventatives.
