My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This darling little dumpling is Precious. She is a 9 year old (DOB 3/10/2009), spunky, sassy Pug. Sadly, she came to us as a owner surrender with two other senior Pugs. Their owner had passed away, and they had been in the care of family for some time. Unfortunately, they had been neglected medically.  Precious has now had a dental, and sports a lovely Pug smile with all 4 of her remaining teeth!!!  She is spayed, and up to date on her Rabies and Distemper vaccines.  She is heart worm negative and on a monthly preventative. Upon arrival, Precious had terrible ear infections in both ears.  It has taken months to get them completely clear, but they are now free of infection.  Her adoring foster family is still using ear cleaner to rid her of any remaining debris. She suffered for a very long time with pain in her ears, and we are glad that she is finally able to be pain free.  Due to this neglect, she is very, very hard of hearing, and could be deaf.   It doesn't seem to bother Precious, as she is always smiling and cheerful, and has a wonderful, loving personality.

Precious came to us extremely overweight and has lost almost 4 pounds.  She is proud of her new sweet Pug body, and enjoys taking a few trots down the street to show it off.  It is imperative that her new forever family keep her at an appropriate weight. She was obviously allowed to over eat in her last home, and it delayed her dental because she had to loose weight before being put under anesthesia. She has a beautiful coat, and still has plenty of Pug 'curves' and rolls to show off. She is currently  a little under 18 pounds. She currently eats 1/3 cup of dry food a day with some green beans mixed in. Her dry food is softened with a little water, now that she only has 4 teeth....and she has no problems eating.  She is house trained, but will not potty unless her person is there with her. She likes to sun bathe on nicer days for a few minutes, and then wants to come in.....again, with her person in tow.  In addition to her time in her fenced yard potty breaks, she enjoys two short walks a day, after her two meals.  She doesn't have the stamina, especially in the heat, for anything two long, but will bark when she is ready for her walks....a girl has to get a little exercise!  She doesn't want or need much time outdoors, and her foster parents shared that she will potty 3 times a day....and that is it.  Precious is fine going up steps, but WILL NOT go down steps.  We have no idea why, but she must be carried down them, and any adoptive family must be willing and able to carry her down any steps in the home.  In addition, Precious enjoys sleeping in bed with her people or person and is not a bed hog....she currently sleeps with her young adult foster brother.

Precious is adorable and super easy to care for and to love.  She will do best with a fenced yard and someone who will walk her twice a day.  Because of her dislike of going down steps, she will not be placed in an apartment home.  A fenced yard is preferred.  We are also looking for a home where there is at least one stay at home parent, or someone who works from home.  A retired person or family would be great, too.  If someone is working part time, she is a great candidate for a 'take to work' dog. Precious likes to have someone in view all the time.  Sometimes, she will walk over to her person and put her head down on their lap and curl up next the them.  She is not shy, and when she needs or wants something, and you are not doing it, she will bark at you to let you know. Mostly, she is super calm and sleeps. She is pretty smart and has adapted well to her schedule.  Due to her laid back personality, she will not be placed in a home with children under 15 years old.  She is almost cat like, and all attention is on her terms.....no man handling by younger children.  She doesn't like people in her face, and she doesn't like to be carried around and 'fussed' over, but she will come and lay beside and snuggle with her person or family.

At Precious' request, we are asking that there be at least one man, or older man child in the home.  She loves everyone, but seems to have a fondness for men.  We think she may be a little cougar, as men 18-25 are her sweet spot. She likes the older men , too, and will make a bee line for a man's lap and happily give them a lick on the face.   She is an easy going girl, and is also fine with other dogs....she is not an alpha at all.

If you are looking for a funny, spunky, opinionated lady Pug, Precious is the one for you.  If you can offer her two short(sometimes very short) walks a day, three potty breaks in a fenced yard, a healthy diet and some warm laps, or couch cushions to snuggle on, please apply.  This is a one in a million Pug!!!

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website:

MMR covers the vet care, food, and tools to get started. You supply the love. Fostering saves lives. Sometimes a foster home is the only thing standing between life and death.
