My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Honey(3) . . . and she is just that!! A stunning fifteen pound Shih Tzu, well mannered, sweet and very friendly. She has a non-shedding unbelievably soft lush white coat with cleverly arranged black spots. Honey arrived at the Safehouse on 02/15/2018. Relinquished by her elderly owner because she was no longer able to care for her, it is obvious that Honey was raised in a very loving home. Her owner said she thought Honey was born in 2010 so we will take her word on that but Honey looks and behaves like a much younger dog. Everyone who meets Honey is taken by the wonder of her. Housetrained, leash trained, quiet, loving, friendly ... need I say more?! Honey loves to play with small companionable dogs, gets along with most other small four legged creatures and definitely enjoys human companionship. Minor surgery when she first arrived to remove a small growth on her left eye lid however her eyes are beautiful and require no medications. On 03/12/2018 Honey was diagnosed with megaesophagus. There is no cure. Management of megaesophagus involves feeding Honey upright and keeping her elevated for 30 minutes after every meal (or treat). She uses a specially built, just for her, “Bailey Chair” which makes mealtime no big deal. She is fed three meals a day because she must eat smaller meals and she eats Honest Kitchen, a dehydrated dog food, because we can control the consistancy. These precautions are necessary because her esophagus does not function so we use gravity to assure that everything she swallows ultimately gets into her stomach. Honey is otherwise very healthy, spayed, microchipped, current on all vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and she has had a complete physical and dental. Her adoption fee is $300.
