This beautiful smile is brought to you by Nala. A little more about Nala.,....Nala is a 2 yr old German Shepherd Dog and has had a very rough year-and-a-half. She and 3 other dogs were left behind when her family decided to move, not take their dogs and left them to fend for themselves. A kind-hearted elderly neighbor took in the 4 dogs. Nala's condition and energy level became too much for her and took Nala to be boarded, at her own expense, because she wanted to give this girl a chance. She networked Nala, trying to find her a home. This kind woman visited her every day while Nala was in boarding for over a year. During that time, Nala was adopted twice and asked to be returned, again, because of her energy level and condition. IDGSR decided after she came back the second time, we were going to take her into the rescue and find Nala her perfect home.

Nala is a special needs girl. She has Canine Megaesophagus, a condition where the muscles of the esophagus fail and cannot propel food or water into the stomach. This is a very manageable condition by feeding her in an vertical position, accomplished using a Bailey Chair. She must remain in the chair for 20-30 minutes post-feeding to allow gravity to get her food to her stomach. An elevated bowl will not work in this case because it does not place the esophagus in the proper orientation for gravity to work its magic. Nala has a new Bailey Chair that will come with her to her new home. Copy and paste the link below for information and photos of Bailey Chairs:

IDGSR has experience with dogs who have had this condition and can answer any questions or concerns prospective adopters have.

Her condition has no bearing on her personality. Nala is a playful, loving girl who LOVES water and being around people. She is a real sweetheart who just needs a little extra help to thrive. In return, she will reward you with every ounce of love she has to give. After all she's been through, she deserves, and is ready, for a home and family of her very own.
