My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Appie, a beautiful 5-6 year old golden mix who came to us all the way from Turkey. She was a stray on the streets of Istanbul when she was lucky enough to find a woman who took her into safety. This nice woman contacted the rescuers we work with who took her in with open arms. Appie is what we call a Velcro dog…she wants to be with her people, and she LOVES people. She will do just about anything for a treat, including sit and give paw. She has a little bit of a stubborn streak, but treats definitely provide the motivation she needs. She loves going on walks, and also really enjoys car rides. She is a great houseguest and has wonderful manners.

Appie would do best as an only dog so she can get all the attention, love, and treats without competition. She has successfully lived with many dogs in the past, but gets a bit protective when a new dog gets in her face. So, introductions with new dogs needs to be done slowly. With dogs she is comfortable with, she loves playing and hanging out with them. Her forever family should plan to continue working with her on her doggie social skills.

Appie has mild hip dysplasia on her right side. Her left hip and knees are in great shape. She is on a glucosamine supplement and an non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, and she is doing really well.
