My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lulabelle! This young (so much life to live!), spunky (have to be active to keep up with her!), beautiful (just look at her spots!), and oversized (she weighs 70lbs and could stand to lose a few!) girl has had a lot of turmoil in her life. Lulabelle (affectionately known as Lou) was surrendered to a local shelter when her owner had to move into an apartment and didn’t have room for her. Initially a bit frightened in the shelter Lou demonstrated some barrier issues and fear around strangers (growling at her kennel door) when she first arrived but with the devoted and loving care of staff and volunteers quickly came around and showed everyone what a bright and happy girl she is!
Lou was rescued by Animal Heartline. Lou is now living in a foster home so she can enjoy the comforts of home life while she waits for her furever family. Smart and super food motivated (she came by her pounds honestly!) Lou loves to learn and enjoys daily training time with her foster mom! Lou is working on impulse control and learning to keep her paws on the ground (no jumping). Lou is also working on calmly meeting new people and being brave in new environments. She is enjoying living with her two dog siblings and plays very well with both even though they have very different play styles and she even interacts politely with the family cat!

To help Lulabelle find that perfect home she has been dreaming of and go from Under Dog to Wonder Dog, the shelter she was rescued from, DuPage County Animal Services with the generous donors of DuPage Animal Friends, has put together an adoption package to ease Lulabelle’s transition into a home and to build a bond between her and her people. Adopt Lou and you will receive a customized training plan for her, 3 paid in-home sessions with a trainer familiar with Lou and what she needs to work on, 3 months of phone/email follow up with the trainer, and a gift bag of training supplies that includes: A Sound Beginning Book & CD to help set up your home to welcome Lulabelle, a Freedom Harness and Leash set, a Martingale collar and additional 6’ leash, an XL Kong toy, a Kong Wobbler enrichment toy, and a Nylabone. All potential adopters must live in the Greater Chicagoland Area to participate in the training package offered with Lou.

Being a very active young lady with a bright, inquisitive mind Lou would do best in a home with an owner experienced with higher energy dogs that can commit to keeping her engaged with continued training, nosework (she loves to use her sniffer!), and long hikes (loves to explore!). Because Lou can be a bit jump when she gets anxious or excited she would do best in a home without children under 12 years of age so she doesn’t accidentally knock little ones over (she is a big girl after all!). Lou would LOVE to live with another dog but would also be okay being your one and only best pal.

Fill out an application for Lou today! She’s very excited to meet you!

Home checks are a requirement of adoption, so
we ask that you live in a 50 miles radius of her foster home in Sugar Grove.
