My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

WE ARE SORRY BUT WE ONLY ADOPT WITHIN THE STATE OF FLORIDA

Maya is a beautiful, young Husky girl who was surrendered to a county shelter because her owner, due their living situation, was no longer able to care for her. However, we know that she was previously well cared for as she came to us very clean, groomed, neatly trimmed toe nails, and well behaved.

Maya is very friendly and loves people, including children. She seeks out attention and is extremely affectionate. She also gets along with dogs her own size or larger; she does not care for small dogs. She adores children and loves to cuddle on the couch with her humans.

She loves playing with other dogs; a great way for her to burn off her energy, along with regular walks. Maya walks well on lead, likes to chase lizards and is a good passenger in the car, just quietly sitting looking out the window. Everyone who meets her falls instantly in love with her. Her foster Mom says she is not just a great dog; she is a WONDERFUL dog!!

She also enjoys playing with her humans. You can gently hold her nose and mouth when playing with her as well as her paws to instigate a game. Be prepared to entertain her once you start this or else allow her to go for a run in the backyard. Maya needs to be watched closely in the backyard as she is a digger under fences and a climber to go over fences, a common escape artist trait inherent in most Huskies.

Maya is crate trained and will go in without any issues. When it's bed time tell her "nighty-night Maya, time for bed" and she goes right into her crate. Even though well behaved, she can be a bit mischievous and get into things she shouldn't. However, she does not necessarily need to be crated at night and will sleep wherever she is allowed. If you leave her crate open she oftentimes she will go in it and take naps. She also likes to put herself to bed at around 10:00 PM -- if the bedroom door isn't closed she will go in and jump into her human’s bed and put herself to sleep.

This girl listens well and knows the sit command. She may know others and since she is food motivated could easily be taught some more. When it's time for a treat she will sit nicely alongside other dogs in the home and wait patiently for hers, showing no food or toy aggression. She's a bit of a finicky eater but loves treats. She also loves to play with toys, especially squeaky toys. She will paw at squeaky tennis balls and push them around the floor with her paws and pounce on them. She doesn't destroy them -- just likes to make them squeak. She also likes to play tug-o-war with her foster brother and his toys.

Maya is healthy, Heartworm negative, housebroken, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, and microchipped. She is well deserving of a loving, forever home and will make a happy family even happier. Fill out an adoption application on our website, www.siberrescue.com, today.
