We purchased Reginald ("Reggie") from a breeder as a puppy two years ago, hoping to bring a second dog into our home to keep our 8-year-old Pit named Brian company. Unfortunately we feel Reggie would be happier in a single-dog household. He is defensive with food and water when it comes to Brian and is very jealous with affection. If Brian is receiving attention he will become anxious and try to push him out of the way. They jockey for dominance often although almost always playfully. We have a 1-year-old at home and another on the way and we worry about having little children in the house with the tension between the two dogs. Other than that he's a typical Great Dane who always wants to be relaxing at home with his family and would love to be a lap dog if he wasn't so big! Because of his size he would probably be more appropriate in a home with adults and older kids rather than the very young or elderly.
