My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

August 29, 2009 - Rest in peace Harvard.

UPDATE JUNE 2009 - Harvard will begin a trial adoption later this week!

UPDATE MARCH 15 - After an extended trial adoption, Harvard was returned. His adoptor decided he wanted a low-energy dog, not an active one. Harvard is a great, trainable boy who is growing up and is currently back in foster care and available for adoption. His current foster parents are loving him. A really great little party attitude guy!

UPDATE DEC 10 - Harvard went on trial Dec 9 - so far so good. Very interesting video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-LAxFH9CCg sure gives food for thought as to what could be in his background...not often that rare breeds or mixes show up in shelters, but stranger things have happened. The resemblance is just remarkable...is all we're saying!!

UPDATE NOV 11 - What a neat neat dog! Harvard LOVES other dogs and will play forever with them. He's walking well on a control harness and is just a nice, happy, silly guy. He's pretty laid back and would probably integrate OK with kids and cats (though assessment is limited at this time). He is very unique looking - your guess is as good as ours at his breed background (Jindo x possibly?). He's just a puppy and he's going to add a lot of character to the right home!

UPDATE OCT 9: Harvard is safe and arrived on October 5. He is doing really well in his foster home with his buddy Zephyr. He's a rough and tumble guy in play but generally happy, no issues with rough play turning serious which is great. So far he's doing unbelievably well; he's a pretty curious, active guy and we weren't expecting crate-training to go so well with him - either he's been in a crate before or he just has good instincts. Due to his energy level and intense personality he's probably not a match in a home with small kids or as a first dog, but he's fairly easygoing in attitude and will be a lot of fun. He's also a very unique-looking, handsome guy, a real head-turner. He looks to be still growing and if as we suspect he isn't even a year old, he should settle a bit more.

We are currently working on several URGENT dogs who are scheduled to be put to sleep next week in a shelter. WE HAVE LIMITED INFORMATION ON THESE DOGS - what we know is posted, when we get more info we update our site. OUR FACEBOOK GROUP AND OUR SITE (BARLEES.ORG) IS MOST RECENTLY UPDATED.

We are posting these dogs in hopes of finding potential fosters or adoptors. We are full and cannot take any more dogs without more foster volunteers. Please understand that shelter assessments in crowded shelters on short timelines are preliminary and we have only volunteer's notes on how they have been in the shelter - they may or may not be housetrained, obedience trained, etc. FOSTERING FOR BARLEE'S COMES WITH FULL SUPPORT AND DIRECTION ON HOW TO HANDLE BEHAVIORAL ISSUES THAT MAY ARISE.

Shelter notes on Harvey: He's believed to be about 9-10 months old, approximately 40lbs, moderately active, excited when he first sees you but settles well, really into people, likes to just sit with you, seems to be clean in run - poss housetrained?

IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN FOSTERING OR ADOPTING ANY OF THESE URGENT DOGS, PLEASE FILL OUT AN APPLICATION AT OUR SITE. THEY ARE ON A TIGHT TIMELINE.
