4/23/09 - Clara's former owner passed away last year. Clara Bell had been an only pet and lovingly doted on by her owner. Clara Bell was taken in by her owner's daughter's family. They found that having a 2 year old, a new baby, and a little Shih Tzu boy at home was a little overwhelming for all involved. Clara Bell has been seen to have food and treat aggression. However, if you and/or other pets stay away from her food while she eats, she does fine. If you get in her way, count your fingers when you walk away to make sure they are all still there. I can't really fault her for that too much. Would you want someone sticking their hands or face in your food or trying to sneak up on your snacks?
It appears that her former mommy must have been a stay-at-home mommy as she shows signs of separation anxiety when we leave the room. We are going to start working on that. She accepts the fact that she has two foster brothers but, just like the princess that she thinks she is, she snubs them when she has had enough closeness. She would not do well with cats as her prey instinct seems a little high. She loves to snuggle on our laps and will only sleep at night in our bed where she can snuggle up against us to make sure that we are still there.
Clara is very energetic even right after her spay. She thinks she is a puppy and can run and jump all she wants. She says "Stay calm with no running! NOT!" It is yet to be decided if she likes to play with toys since she went in for her surgery a few days after she came into our home and her pain meds also keep her somewhat sedated since she refuses to stay relaxed on her own. Her stitches are due to come out on May 4th and then she can resume normal playing. She gets very antsy just waiting to be able to play.
Clara Bell follows us around the house when she does not have to be confined to an x-pen to help her recovery from her surgery. We have to be very watchful when opening doors as she will silently sneak right past us to go out in the yard before we notice.
