My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there! My name is Myah, and I'm a sweet, calm, quiet, loving, loyal, and affectionate 43-pound tan-with-white Basenji/ Whippet mix lass who was born about September 2017. I have the skull, wrinkled brow, coloring, and markings of a Basenji but lack that breed's corkscrew tail, erect ears, and pointed muzzle. I have the weight, slender tail, and slim 'greyhound' body type of a Whippet and will probably thrive on daily exercise like most Whippet mixes.
I'm alert and very intelligent like a Basenji as well as steady and stable like a Whippet. I'm friendly with my foster family and enjoy my role as their loving and loved companion. However, like both Basenjis and Whippets, I'm initially aloof with strangers until I can sniff them out and feel comfortable with them. Just call me discerning of my friends!
I guess you're wondering how a fantastic pooch like me is homeless. I had been adopted by a young lady, but when she needed to move in with her grandparents, they did not allow me to go along with her. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan found out about my precarious predicament and took me into her home because she was afraid I might be released on the streets.
I was initially very scared in my foster home and would shy away from an outstretched hand. Thanks to my being heaped with plenty of TLC in the meantime, I'm much better now! I think that my problem was that my first home was a sheltered environment in which my adopter had not exposed me to much or socialized me with other 2-legged or 4-legged critters. So I'm just responding positively to my enriched living conditions, although I still prefer that your outstretched hand approach me at eye level and not from above.
That said, I have so much love to give! Despite my initial fears, I did sleep with my 14-year-old foster human brother the first night, and now when my foster mom picks me up from doggie day care, I'm a bundle of excitement at our reunion. Although I have not been tested around cats or small children, I do great playing with the other dogs at doggie day care, although I can be timid with them in the beginning. In short, I have the potential to be a delightful companion and wonderful pet in many family situations. I hope that you'll arrange to meet me today so we can start to write a new chapter in our lives together.
