My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🐶🐶 LUCY Female 5 – 6 years & AVAILABLE - for more photos of LUCY please click http://norcalbcrescue.org/lucy_2018.html 🐶🐶

Introducing loveable LUCY, an approximately five-six year old female medium coat border collie. She is mostly shiny black with white leg socks with white speckles all over the black part of her face (we’ve been told they are NOT grey hairs, like most people would think). She has a dainty frame and is a lean 37 pounds.

LUCY is housebroken and lets us know when it’s time for her to go outside. She is very comfortable being outside – alone or with company – and we think that’s where she’s spent most of her prior life. LUCY has quickly gotten used to hanging out and sleeping indoors if that’s what’s going on and doesn't wander at all or cause problems. It doesn't seem like LUCY has been exposed to much obedience training (sit, down, etc.) but had almost immediate, responsive recall with her new name (we think she thinks if fits her just right too).

LUCY started out as a very shy and insecure gal but in just a short time has worked through most of that and has settled right into her foster home with her foster sister dogs. She is a mostly low energy dog, and beds down to sleep any time of day – inside she’ll head straight for a dog bed or outside to the grass in the sunshine. LUCY joins in with our dogs’ welcoming chorus and dance when we come home and is clearly excited to see us. She easily walks on a leash and loves all the sights and happenings on the daily neighborhood jog. LUCY does NOT like loud machinery like lawn mowers and such at all. We’ve not seen any cats yet so don’t know what she thinks about those. There has only been one scuffle so far and it involved a lawn mower and her barking at it and one of her foster sisters getting all BC on her. No harm, no foul. They shook paws and moved on.

She’s not so much into playing with toys as she is in chewing them up, so chew-friendly or chew-resistant choices would be key. There has been no digging or inappropriate chewing so far. LUCY is enjoying the affection and attention she’s getting and she is becoming increasingly at ease sidling up for a snuggle or a pet or a scratch. She really responds to all the kind words and encouragement, for sure.

LUCY has not been sleeping in a crate for nighttime sleep as she stays calm throughout the night in her bed without wandering or needing to go outside. Her foster family has showered her with lots of love and support to continue her confidence building and it’s paid off. LUCY could be an only dog in a home that would give her some focused attention and love. If she was not the only dog, it would be best if the other dogs were not aggressive or pestering her for play but rather more on the mid-level energy companion side. So far, she doesn't seem particularly inclined for dog sports, like agility or flyball, but might be a great hiking pal.

LUCY is micro-chipped, spayed, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (http://norcalbcrescue.org/adopt_info.html) and wish to enquire about LUCY, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.

LUCY is being fostered in Redding in Shasta County, California.
