Leonard the Lover!
Two-year-old Leonard, aka Lenny, is a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix. Lenny and his sister Laverne got a ticket on The Rescue Train through our “Shelter Intervention Program.” Their owner lost his home and was living in his car with them. We helped him temporarily board Laverne and Lenny for 3 weeks while he tried to find a friend or family member to take them in. Exhausting all resources, he asked if they could board The Rescue Train rather than surrendering them to the Los Angeles City Animal Shelter, where the pair would be immediately separated. We have so much admiration for him to give his beloved dogs this final gift of safety. We promised him we would find them amazing FURever homes.
This good natured little pumpkin pie, loves having a BFF. When he and his sister first came to The Rescue Train, they were inseparable. But as some relationships do, Lenny and Laverne seem to have grown apart. Instead of mirroring Laverne's every move, Lenny follows around his foster siblings instead. At this point, we feel comfortable adopting them out to separate homes so long as there is an existing dog in the home similar in age/size/energy level to Lenny.
Lenny has a spunky personality! He gets along great with other dogs, loves car rides and is gentle and incredibly loving. Lenny would do best with an experienced adopter, in a home with a yard where he can run and play. Lenny can be vocal so for this reason, we do not think he would make a great apartment dog. He's between 12-15 lbs. Our volunteers ADORE Lenny and we are committed to finding this guy a home as extraordinary as him.
