My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hot Rod is a German Shepherd Dog (GSD), male, 1.25 years of age, DOB: (8-1-17).

Hot Rod -- A sociable, very sensitive and amiable, extremely loyal and affectionate young dog who loves people and lives to please them. Sweet-natured and completely charming, this regal German Shepherd Dog craves companionship and close contact, and he’ll want to be included in daily family activities. Quite the comedian as well, he’s a happy-go-lucky and fun-loving character who likes attention, and he’s not above acting silly to get it. Although active and athletic, his exercise needs are fairly modest and can be met with interactive outdoor play (he loves to play), regular leashed walks, obedience training, and adventurous outings alongside family members who he will be faithfully and fawningly devoted too.

Hot Rod is a quick study in all things; he’s responsive to direction, he’s extremely intelligent, and he has a high learning ability. Being young yet means he can be easily distracted, but also being an eager people-pleaser means he redirects quickly and easily too. Currently working on his leash skills and good manners training with his foster family, he has shown himself to be, both, attentive and obedient. Hot Rod really loves being challenged and given an opportunity to learn new things, so not only will he benefit from training and socialization classes, but this will also be an excellent way to bond with him as well as to reinforce good canine manners as he matures; he also enjoys and will excel in obedience training as well as just about any other activity he participates in.

An all-in and wholeheartedly sincere, sometimes silly, always endearing little rascal whose youth and budding self-confidence means he needs family members ready to provide him with the time, attention, patience, structure, and love that he, like all pups, needs and deserves. Straight-up a loving, exceptionally well-behaved, total-package young canine, Hot Rod is looking for a home with responsible, caring owners worthy of his trust and willing to set-him up for continued success by providing consistent leadership and lifelong companionship.

Hot Rod is best suited as an indoor pet and companion for a home with a moderately-active lifestyle. While we think he’ll get along well with a compatible, similar-sized dog he has been properly introduced to, particularly one of the opposite-sex, a home visit and a meet-n-greet with any housemate pets will be required prior to adoption. Hot Rod lived in a home with young children previously; he has shown himself to be comfortable with and well-mannered around children of all ages; we think he’ll do well in just about any home where children and pets alike are taught to respect boundaries and interaction is monitored as it should be.

Hot Rod currently resides in a home with one of our foster volunteers. You can meet him by appointment with pre-approved adoption application. To start the adoption process and meet Hot Rod, complete and submit Monroe SPCA’s adoption application: http://www.monroespca.org/Adoption%20Application%20-%20Dog.pdf.

Completed applications can be emailed to info@monroespca.org or dropped off at Monroe SPCA’s Adoption Center and Retail Store located at 293 W. Monroe Street, Dundee, MI.

Once we receive your application, we will review it and call you to conduct a phone screening and schedule a meeting within two (2) to three (3) business days.
