My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A big Cajun howdy to you! My name is Hula, and I'm a very sweet 'personality-plus' blue merle-with-white petite 48-pound Catahoula Leopard Dog mix fella who was born in December 2016. Coincidentally, I was found wandering the streets by the kind-hearted proprietor of a dog boarding and grooming salon. Bless her -- she brought me back to her business to give me professional obedience training to help me get adopted as well as to get me fully vetted and neutered. How can you beat that on luck?
Since Catahoulas are known for their intelligence, I'd be best matched with someone who has experience training intelligent dogs. We need a firm, patient leader who will offer firm guidance. We're high-energy, athletic dogs who were bred to herd wild boar and cows in the marshes of Louisiana. We need serious exercise that not only gets our bodies moving but also stimulates our minds. We're very task-oriented and are said to 'want to work and then work some more!'
We're loyal and attach to our human family quickly, so we need time, attention, and affection from our loved ones. We don't thrive unless we're close to our family, so we must live in the house with them. Being left alone or ignored would be 'the pits' for me.
Even though I'm just a Catahoula mix, I manifest several of the breed's characteristics. First, I'm wary of strangers: I can be a little nervous around new people and new situations. However, once I open up to someone, I'm a total sweetheart. On the bright side, it's said that Catahoulas can be a great judge of someone's character.
Second, like a typical Catahoula, I can be very dominant around some dogs here at doggie day care, and let's just say that I'm picky about which dogs I trust and get along with. If a potential adopter has another dog, it would be best that I go for a trial sleepover to see how I evaluate the other dog's trustworthiness. Like other Catahoulas, I may need to be adopted as a solo-dog.
I haven't been around cats or kids because, for Pete's sake, I'm at a dog place. However, once Catahoulas know their place in the family unit, they are affectionate, loyal, and gentle. Catahoulas are great watchdogs in that they are very protective of their family and especially 'their' children.
I hope my handsome face, unusual markings, and 'sad stray' story have piqued your interest in me. Why don't you arrange to meet me today?
Hula is updated on shots, neutered, dewormed, and microchipped. He tested heartworm positive and is currently undergoing treatment, the cost of which Buster's Friends will assume. His adoption fee is $200, cash or check payable to Buster's Friends. Please click the contact button if you are interested in Hula, and we can arrange for you to meet him.
