My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Isabella is 13 years old and weighs 4.5 pounds. She is a little tripod and is being fostered in Tallahassee, FL.

UPDATED BIO 11/14/2018: Isabella was surrendered by her owner who could no longer care for her. She is a very sweet little girl who loves her family so much that she wants to be able to see them – and be with them - all the time. Isabella loves to play fetch with tiny toys and will bring them back to you so that you can toss them again – sweet! She is curious about her new surroundings and is completely house-trained. She will use a pee-pee-pad and also goes outside to do her business. Isabella is very alert and her most favorite thing to do is to be close to her chosen person. Isabella will definitely need a home where someone is home most of the time; she gets very sad when left alone. She is missing her two brothers – and her son - who came into rescue with her and whines for them at times. She would do well as either an only dog in her adoptive home, or perhaps with another dog close to her age and size.

Isabella and her companions were in poor condition when they arrived in UYR, but she is doing great now. She has had a dental and has 5 teeth left, but this girlie really has a super great appetite and has no trouble whatsoever eating. She did have crystals in her urine, but a follow-up urinalysis shows no crystals – yeah! Her bilateral ear infections have cleared and she is a happy and lively little girl.

Isabella has a congenital limb deformity in her left forearm, leaving her with only a small appendage. Her right elbow is showing signs of arthritis which makes it difficult for her to walk a long way, but she is still mobile. At times, she will stop and rest for a short time on her chest before continuing with walking. She also has bilateral Grade II/IV luxating patellas and gets around by hopping like a little bunny rabbit. She has been this way her entire life and has certainly adapted well to her disability. She can maneuver small steps with no problem whatsoever, and manages to get up on the back of the sofa so that she has a better view – sweet! Isabella has a bit of age-related hearing loss, but if spoken to directly and with a little louder-than-normal tone, she understands exactly what you are saying. Please don’t look past our senior and special needs dogs like Isabella. She will make a wonderful companion to someone that is home most of the time, perhaps a retired person/couple and who wants a constant cuddle-buddy. She is definitely a Velcro dog and wants to be with her person all the time. Just like older people, older dogs need love, too.
UPDATED BIO 11/05/2018: Isabella arrived in UYR almost 10 days ago and she has gone through quite a bit of adjustments during this time. She has been updated on her vaccinations, had a thorough vet exam and also had a dental – she was left with 5 teeth. Isabella’s urinalysis showed that she has crystals in her urine and she was prescribed an antibiotic – she will return for an updated urinalysis soon to ensure all is clear.

PLEASE NOTE! Due to Isabella's small size and her disability, she canNOT be adopted into a home with children. Adults only please.
