My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

From my foster:
Buffy is a perpetually happy puppy. She loves to play, play, play! Any toy will do and anything laying about can become a toy for her. She enjoys tug, chase and chew. We did not have a problem with her chewing inappropriate items around the house but we were careful to pick up things that might interest her. We left a wide variety of toys around so there was always something appropriate for her to grab.

We have three dogs, an adult pitbull, a senior dachshund and an adult chihuahua. Buffy wanted to play with all of them but sadly none of them had enough energy to keep up with her shenanigans. She would love a home with a younger adult dog who is more playful, our dogs were just too lazy for her.

At mealtimes Buffy would initially eat about half of her food and then would want to go back and pick at it later. With so many dogs in the house we couldn't leave her food out for her so after a few days she started finishing or almost finishing her full bowl when it was offered to her. She ate in a bedroom, separate from the other dogs.

When left alone for short periods of time Buffy was crated. Usually she would cry at first but then settled down and fell asleep. I don't think we have left her in the crate for longer than one hour so far.

At night Buffy slept closed in our bedroom with us and the other dogs so that I could hear her if she woke up. Sometimes she wanted to be on a dog bed alone, sometimes she slept on a dog bed with one of the other dogs. Usually she would wake up one or two times per night.

We have been working on housetraining with Buffy and she is making fast progress. We have a fenced backyard and there is a specific area she has chosen where she likes to go. Almost every time we take her out she will go there and potty, then will want to play in the backyard. If we take her out every hour on the dot she has very few accidents inside. When she has accidents inside it is almost always because we have gone too long without taking her out.

Buffy really just wants to be around people. She has shown no fear of strangers and will run up to anyone who calls her. She likes to be cuddled and to sleep in laps. She seems to have pretty good inhibition with her mouth when she gets excited and starts to become mouthy (play biting.) When she became mouthy with us we would give her an appropriate toy to bite instead and that always worked. Usually toy stuffies worked best. When she became mouthy with the other dogs they would bark or growl at her and she would take their cue and appropriately back off.

I've fostered hundreds of puppies over the years and Buffy is actually a fairly easy puppy. She seems to have been well socialized so far and with continued socialization and training should make a very nice family dog.
