My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sadie - Pomeranian Mix - female/spayed - adult (vet’s best estimate at approx. 8 years of age - fluffy soft black coat with tan and white - 23 pounds

This little dog is a treasure. She is consummately gentle, intuitive, and kind. We find ourselves astonished by her presence in rescue, and saddened by whatever circumstances led to her abandonment, as we cannot imagine anyone willingly parting from Sadie.

Sadie was found in the parking lot of a rural grocery store, greeting people with her customary sweetness and hopefulness. She was taken to the local Animal Control facility and no one ever came to claim her, so we presume that for some reason having nothing to do with Sadie herself, she was deliberately dropped off.

Other than needing a full-scale grooming and a good dental procedure, Sadie came into rescue care in good condition. Since then she has had a full dental procedure which did require some extractions, and her coat now gleams with health. She is also now fully vaccinated, and on preventatives for heart worm disease and fleas and ticks.

Sadie is pleasingly plump, and has a smile that could light up the sky. She also possesses beautiful manners - many of them are a natural reflection of her own quiet, understanding ways and her earnest, good graces. Sadie has full, open and direct eye contact and is alert and watchful. Some of her alertness is pinned on a devout hope that food may be somewhere in her vicinity, but she also studies the rhythms of her foster home - the result being that from the first day she walked into foster care, it felt as if she had always lived there. She instantly befriended the resident dogs, cats and people and offered affection and warmth to everyone who came through the door.

Sadie is also impeccably house trained, communicating her need to go outside by dancing about the house, or wandering through it pointedly. Sadie knows “sit”, “Down” and “paw”. Her capacity to recognize and cooperate with routine has also accomplished her learning a number of new cues since coming into foster care, like “go outside” - “go in the house” - “get in your bed”. She is a quick study and a willing student.

Sadie also walks well on leash, although again - this is more a reflection of her sweet and cooperative nature than any real leash training. She rides very well in a car.

Sadie has a very soft mouth and takes treats softly, and gives gentle kisses. She is very tactile without being pushy or presumptuous, and when she crawls into your lap to snuggle it is with her characteristic gentleness.

Her soft, fluffy coat requires regular brushing and care; Sadie adores touch and is happy to be brushed and groomed.

Sadie has a cheerful, prancing style of movement. Indoors she is quiet and low-key, and outdoors she loves to caper around the yard. Her greatest love is physical proximity to her humans, and without being demanding on any level, she will find a way to be close to her foster care providers. Although she loves to be cradled and loved on, she is content to lie at your feet.

We want to find Sadie a home in which she will be valued and loved - one in which she can enjoy a close, bonded connection with her human(s). If you have a family, please note that we are recommending Sadie for children over 6 years of age.

Sadie would also like to include on her own wish list: a home that remembers to reward her with treats, and wants a dog who is filled with love.
