My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Gordon

Voted most likely to be cast in the live action movie adaptation of "The Pokey Little Puppy"

Gordon is the cutest 9-week old Lab/Hound mix puppy with long floppy ears and scrunchy face. He came to IL with his mom and siblings when the puppies were just 3 weeks old and he has been in foster homes since.

Gordon is currently fostered with one of his brothers and a much larger foster brother who he loves to snuggle with when he gets a chance. Gordon is the first to fall asleep in your lap and makes funny sounds when you pet him while he is sleeping. Gordon quickly found his voice and will let his brother know when he means business.

Since he is still so little he is learning manners and will nip or attempt to chew on you when he thinks you are playing. Compared to his brothers Gordon is a bit lower energy. He is the ultimate napper and as soon as he calms down he gives wonderful kisses before falling asleep.

The foster home has just started crate training and he is learning how to hold it all night. He is just at the beginning of his potty training journey and will need to be taken out a lot or given puppy pads. Gordon is very food motivated which makes training a bit easier.

His foster home is kid-friendly and he is used to be picked up and carried around by an eager 5-year-old at odd times including while eating or sleeping. Gordon is just happy to have someone to love. Could it be you?

Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, we do not permit out of state adoptions of unaltered dogs or puppies.

Puppies have special needs and require a home where there will be someone available to care for, socialize, and train them during the day. If your family is away from the home for several hours at a time, please consider adopting a “teen” or adult dog.

Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee). It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping.

We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email safehavendogsIL@yahoo.com for an application or additional details.

Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.
