My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Maybell is a 6-year-old spayed female chocolate lab. Maybell weighs 70 pounds and is up to date on shots. She is bonded with Angie and the 2 must be adopted together.

Okay, it has been a while since we showcased these girls, to whom we fondly refer as the “sister-wives”. Maybell (chocolate) and Angie (yellowish) are not labs- we know that, but they had no future as the floodwaters started rolling into their pen during Hurricane Florence last year. Maybell was treated for heartworm and is ready to roll. Angie just recently had a dental and lost 4 teeth in the process, but she is now ready to roll. We held off on publicizing them because we need them to help Molly, Maybell’s daughter, realize the world was good and no one would ever hurt her.

The girls are bonded: Maybell would probably do fine anywhere with anyone, but Angie needs Maybell to let her know all is well. While they are both supposedly 6 years old, going on 7, we think Angie may be a bit older, or had a rough life before she was rescued by the family in NC. Maybell’s favorite thing is belly scratches; Angie’s: chasing butterflies, birds, salamanders and frogs- well and eviscerating stuffies.

Angie is still wary of people’s intentions, but all she does is get out of your way. She loves to come for attention when the scratch bar opens, but she has to come to you. The girls do not have a mean bone in their chunky bodies and are housebroken to the max- they have not had an accident in the 10 months they have lived with us. We surmise that Angie might be confused by a fuzzy slipper or pillow, but they have never destroyed anything that wasn’t dog approved.

The ladies don’t require much exercise and do fine behind a 4’ chain link fence. They are pretty good on leash as long as they are together, but Angie will balk if walked alone. These gals have been super easy fosters, but would love a home of their own.

OK so far with cats, kids unknown so 10+.
