My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Izzy: 10 year-old female black Lab mix 90 lbs spayed

Background: This sweet and delightful girl loves to be petted and will gently touch you with her paw if she thinks you are stopping too soon. Could you provide the loving forever home Izzy so truly deserves?

Izzy’s owner adopted her from a shelter in Chicago a few years ago and was very devoted to her. But life changes happened. Izzy and her owner moved to the Bay Area six months ago into a household that already had three other smaller dogs. Although Izzy played nicely with the other dogs, she wasn’t that keen about sharing bones or favorite toys with the other dogs. The people weren’t good about picking up these valuable items and conflicts between the dogs occurred. The other people in the home aren’t really big dog people and the smaller dogs were there first, so Izzy’s owner was asked to find another home for Izzy. Izzy’s owner is very sad about giving her up, but is respecting the wishes of his household, and called Lab Rescue to find Izzy a new family that would provide her a loving forever home. We can’t imagine how anyone could bear to say goodbye to this wonderful girl!

What Izzy’s foster says: Izzy is a very calm and polite dog. She prefers to be inside with people and will happily sleep or rest next to me all day. At night she sleeps on the floor at the base of my bed and sometimes goes in and sleeps next to my son’s bed on the hard floor. I think that she thinks she is protecting the child by sleeping there. She has never tried to climb on the bed or the furniture and will often wait outside my door to be invited into my room. Sometimes I hear her bark when she is on her own in the yard, but not a lot. She likes to chase squirrels but is way too slow to catch one. She has found a potty spot in the garden to do her business and does it there rather than the lawn.

What Izzy’s Rescue Rep says: Izzy will provide a great companion for someone looking for a dog devoted to their person. She’s very people focused and wants to please you. Watching Izzy enjoy a good back scratch wriggle on the grass will bring joy to your heart. She’s a sweet, intelligent, easy-going, and loyal dog. We think Izzy might do best as the only dog in a home where she can be the focus of attention. Izzy has enjoyed playing with other dogs, but can be reactive when she sees other dogs while on leash. Her owner trained her to sit and focus on him when saw another dog while on leash, her foster reports she does great at this, especially when you put a treat on her nose!
Medical Information: Spayed, microchipped, current on shots, and will be tested for heartworm. Overall healthy. Has a cyst on one eyelid that her vet recommended letting be
.
Izzy is located in: Woodside

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
