My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Chilko, a very handsome 1.5 year old, 50 lb mixed breed pup (maybe Husky; maybe Lab; maybe Aussie Shepherd)? He is a playful, energetic boy who loves to be outside hiking or just running around having fun. He enjoys going to day care and to dog parks to play with other pups. He’s an energetic guy who will happily accompany his people on long, leisurely, peaceful walks in the outside world.
Chilko was found as a stray, when he was just a few months old near a reserve in Kitimat and was rescued by the Kitimat Humane Society. His current family adopted him at 5 months old and he has lived with them since then. Circumstances have changed for them recently and unfortunately his people are both working full time now and they’ve also had to move and are unable to find a new home with a yard for Chilko. He is not doing well being alone all day in an apartment. Because his people cannot offer him the environment he needs or the attention he craves, they are willing to part with him so he can find another loving family who can give him more.
Currently, Chilko goes to doggy day care several times a week and he loves romping and rolling around with all the other pups - he is everyone’s buddy! On-leash, he prefers to walk in quiet areas where he won’t encounter too many other dogs. He can be a little fearful and sometimes and will lunge or bark at other dogs - especially the big ones! A few training sessions would help him gain confidence, polish his social skills and teach him proper doggy leash etiquette! He can be shy and standoffish with strangers, especially certain men, but in some situations like at the dog park, he is super outgoing and friendly! It’s all about his comfort level.
He is an agreeable and loyal companion to his own people but he is not a Velcro dog. He isn’t glued to his humans side but has a more aloof and independent spirit. He can be affectionate and clownish at times and will really bounce around when he is encouraging someone to play! One of his favourite activities is zooming around the yard or the park at top speed! But, he’ll always check back on his people when he is off leash!
Chilko has had some exposure to kids, but because he’s a little anxious and some little humans often have a natural aptitude for scaring pups, we think he would be best in a more mature family! He wouldn’t do well with cats either because he just loves chasing small creatures like squirrels and birds etc. He would probably thrive in a home with a well balanced dog to keep him company and to play chase with him in the yard or at the park.
Chilko knows many basic commands like sit, stay, come , lay down etc. He’s a smart pup and can even do some tricks like shake, spin, sit pretty, high five and play dead! He’s funny to watch when he’s sleeping and you wonder what adventures he’s dreaming when he twitches and shudders with all four legs in the air! - He is healthy (loves eating veggies), housetrained, neutered and microchipped!
He is a lovely, sweet dog who forms strong bonds with his own people. His family are heartbroken to part with him and want him to have a new family who will love, protect and give him all the attention he deserves. He will show his affection by resting his chin on your lap and sitting beside you waiting for pats!
