My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lance is a very large, handsome, male with classic black and tan GSD coloring.

He came to GSRNE from a shelter where his owner had surrendered him. In his prior life, Lance evidently did not enjoy many comforts. It appears that he lived outside most of his life and was not part of a household. Until he came to GSRNE, he had not had the opportunity to be a cherished family pet or faithful companion.

Despite his past, Lance is thriving in his foster home. He loves his family and is now is looking for a permanent family that can help him enjoy his second youth. At eleven years old, he is still very enthusiastic and active and has no known medical problem, other than mild arthritis, due to his age. He’ll need inexpensive supplements to help this.

Lance is the whole package: a gorgeous GSD, friendly and outgoing, and a dog who is eager to please his people. He demonstrates a willingness to interact with all of the people he meets. Rather than startle, he is pleased to greet kids who pass by on bikes or those who are playing in yards. Lance also welcomes other dogs he encounters on walks with the wag of his tail. He is also feline friendly and is willing to cohabitate with a furry counterpart. In all of his interactions, he seems a very affable and good-natured GSD.

Lance is just the huggable and lovable big bear you have always dreamed of! He loves to go for rides in cars and will jump in any car that has an open door for him. He has demonstrated some anxiety, but in his new foster home he is getting regular exercise. The exercise has provided him an outlet and reduced the excitement and mouthiness Lance can exhibit. In his past interaction with people, it seems no one communicated that overexcitement and the mouthiness are immature behaviors that are not desired. Yet, Lance is learning quickly and he is eager to please. His new home will have to continue to work on this.

Lance is learning that toys are fabulous fun. In his eleven years, it seems that he never learned to play. The opportunity to watch Lance grow and develop and participate in such adolescent adventures is one of the things that has endeared him most to his foster family. His foster mom comments that seeing him play for the first time made her cry.

Lance loves living with his fellow female GSD in the house; a home with another dog would provide him with the opportunity for companionship and a playmate.

This GSD has missed out on so much and has so much to offer. He is thoroughly enjoying life right now. He has not allowed the past to dictate how he approaches things. He loves human companionship and is a gentle giant. He would be a great candidate for CGC which would allow him to catch up on all of the human interaction he missed out on for so long!

Lance would be a great dog for someone who has an interest in GSDs, but who is uncertain if they can handle the demands of a very active youngster. Lance possesses the best qualities of a GSD, but requires less than a younger dog. Yet, his new owners will reap all of the benefits of this wonderful breed.

An ideal home for Lance is one that is active and one that walks daily. He is extremely enthusiastic about walks and his enjoyment of this activity almost seems like he is trying to make up lost time!. Lance needs an adopter who will continue to teach him to play and interact with him in new ways. He is smart and willing to learn anything and is eager to please those in his life. Lance’s adopters will have the chance to show him what life should be all about.
