My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Colby(ARPH #10909), is a 2 yr old red merle male, who was rescued from a shelter in NC. Upon first meeting Colby, it took our volunteer almost 30 minutes for him to accept a treat from her hand. Seems Colby, like most aussies, was very distrustful of strangers and being in the shelter situation did not help.

When Colby got into his foster home, he began to learn that strangers are not a bad thing, especially ones with treats to offer and actually warms up rather quickly now.
He is fine with the other dogs in the house, which includes two female aussies and a male ACD. Colby is a fast runner and his foster sisters have learned it is easier to cut him off rather than try to actually catch him. His foster home has a doggie door that leads to a nice fenced yard for Colby to play in during the day when they are home. As the saying goes. “a tired aussie is a happy aussie” and the certainly fits this boy. He leans more towards the higher energy level and will need lots of exercise.

Colby is crate trained and does not mind sleeping in it at night, especially when he is tired but he is not happy about staying in it during the day when his foster parents are at work. He barks/whines a little but then settles down. It is his desire to chase the cats that keeps Colby in the crate when no one is home so a cat free home is a must for this boy.

Colby has also been known to counter surf so his new home will need to continue his training on that. Colby is making progress on learning he can not play with humans like he does with other dogs and that is with his teeth. He is not trying to hurt you, just wants to play and only knows how to do it like a dog. Colby is very affectionate with those he loves and trusts and would like nothing better than to be a big lap dog or bed hog. Because of his size and need for training, older children only in the home.

Colby is neutered/UTD on his vaccines/gets his monthly prevents for heartworm and fleas and is doing well with his housetraining. He is currently being fosterd in Columbia, SC.
