My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ADOPTION PENDING

Chimaera, affectionately known as Shy, is a 13 month old black female with natural ears. She is a small Dane, currently weighing 75 pounds. Although she is still a puppy and is still growing, she will most likely just fill out and not get too much larger. Shy is house trained and has only had 1 accident since in foster care. She will need a little patience settling into her new home as all puppies do. Shy came into rescue when her current owners did not know how to take care of her. She was labeled as having separation anxiety due to destruction. She was not crate trained, which meant that as a puppy she was free to destroy the house as puppies will! While in foster care, Shy has grown to accept her crate and no longer whines when inside. She is NOT to be trusted free roaming in the home with no supervision. After all she is still a puppy and will get into puppy things. Shy is a Velcro Dane and loves to be near her humans. She will lay at your feet and cuddle with you all day if you let her. She is not tall enough to counter surf but has shown puppy curiosity in the kitchen. She is cautious when meeting new people and will do a nervous bark and scurry behind her human or run to a corner. She is skittish but opens up very quickly once she knows the new “thing” will not hurt her. She is a licker once she gets to know you. She barks at new noises (like acorns hitting the roof or the ice maker) until she knows it is a “normal house sound” and then she stops. Shy loves to play with her foster brothers and sister. She is currently fostered with a male Dane, a female Dane, and a male boxer. Shy plays rough and sounds like a bear but there is no aggression whatsoever in her. She just sounds a little scary if you don’t know she is playing. Shy needs to learn to be a puppy and needs a confident dog to show her how to play nicely and the ropes of the home. She does not need to be with humans all day (although she would prefer it) but she cannot be alone. She does well wandering the home with the other dogs and will sleep in a separated room all night as long as another dog is in the room. Otherwise she will whine. Shy would do best in a home where she has a confident dog to teach her and with people that are home more than they are away. Although she is small, her fear of new people and tight spaces (like an elevator) does not make her a good candidate for apartment or condo living. She will need a fenced yard and plenty of exercise to work the puppy energy out of her. She rides well in a car and shown no sign of resource guarding. She is a leaner and will nudge for attention. She also knows some basic commands but will be adopted with training being a requirement of her adoption contract.

You must have traditional fencing to adopt Shy.
