My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We are pleased to introduce you to our Holly, AKA "Holly Bear" or "Holly Berry" as we have come to affectionately call her. Although we are unsure of her breed, Holly appears to have some lab and hound mixed in with a larger breed dog, as her overall personality and stature remind us of a pastoral breed, such as an Anatolian Shepherd. Over the past few weeks, we have gotten to know this little doe-eyed beauty and have really fallen in love with her. We think you will, too!

Holly was picked up as a stray and turned into a rural Illinois shelter, before Canines & Company rescued her, where she is now being fostered, socialized and trained in preparation for her new home. While a bit timid and aloof at first, Holly quickly blossomed into a social butterfly, vying for the attention of all the humans at the dog park. She especially loves children and will run up to them in particular almost immediately. We are working on her manners in greeting, as it is sometimes hard to contain her enthusiasm as she has gained more confidence!

Holly is friendly to all the furry friends she meets as well. She have been living with multiple foster dog siblings and coexisted well. She is respectful of space and will leave her senior foster siblings alone, while having no problem rough housing with the young and energetic dogs. She is much intrigued by her favorite cat friend and will happily chase, but keeps her distance when the cat has had enough.

Our sweet girl has a calm disposition that would blend easily into most households. She has been evaluated and trained by our team of professional dog trainers and has already picked up "sit," "down," and "place" fairly quickly. She is working on "stay," but who could blame a pup for not wanting to sit still?! Holly does well in her crate and can sleep through the night with ease, not to mention is an excellent car rider as well, falling asleep within minutes of hitting the road! She is working on potty training and will potty each time she is taken out.

Along with Holly's adoption fee, her adopter is welcome to take a six week group course at Found Chicago Boarding and Training Center free of charge to assist in the transition to a new home. If you are interested in meeting our Holly Bear, please fill out an application or contact brittney@caninesandcompany.org to schedule a meeting.
