Maggie, or Moo Moo as affectionately called in her foster home, is quite the love bug and easily motivated by food and treats. Maggie shows and gives affection freely with people she loves and is comfortable with. You can easily find yourself with a Maggie-sized shadow who gives you kisses and hugs anytime you need them. She's an excellent hugger! Maggie can be slow to warm up to men but hasn’t had issues with women and older children.
Maggie is a 5yo Kelpie mix, who true to her breed loves to herd people and other animals. She displays typical herding breed behaviors like nipping at heels, herding other dogs and keeping them in line. She can and has lived successfully with other dogs, however, Maggie needs slow introductions, quick corrections, and a dog who can be submissive to her dominant personality. Her behavior with other dogs will need to be managed on a consistent basis so experienced dog or herding breed owners are preferred. She will do best with an alpha handler who lets her know that they are the ones in charge, not her. We realize this is a tall order for most people, which is why she's on the single-dog list. If she doesn't have to compete with another animal, she's significantly easier to handle.
Maggie has been attending weekly training classes to work on her leash behaviors and reactivity. Inside the home, Maggie loves sleeping and naps, enjoys a daily walk or active playtime throwing the toys, is crate trained, and potty trained. She loves riding in the car and can be the perfect companion if you want to be a marathon runner one day and a couch potato the next day.
