Here's what the humans have to say about me:
SAM is a 3 year old "Bassett mix", he comes across as a little intimidating at first, but in the right home he is a very loving, loyal dog. He does very well with cats and other dogs. Sam weighs about 35 lbs and is heartworm negative.
Sam will need an experienced owner that won't be intimidated by his big personality. He will sometimes bark, growl, and bare his teeth with some people. His foster family has worked with him beautifully, and he has improved so much over the last year... but his new family will need to continue working with him because he is smart & senses when someone is afraid and will take advantage of it if allowed.
On the plus side, Sam listens very well! He will plant his butt when you tell him to sit and goes straight to his bowl when it's feeding time. He's really very affectionate and a big lap dog. He is good with all of the cats and other dogs in his foster home, even fosters that come and go. He is very treat driven. He likes to look and sound mean, even when he plays, but underneath the big facade is a big wuss that let's the cats and the foster family's much smaller dogs boss him around. His foster family raves about what an overall good boy he is, and couch time with him is a family favorite. We know there is a perfect family out there for Sam!
