My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

From Wookie’s foster family:

Wookie provides us with a lot of laughs, love, and close companionship. He has the big Yorki personality compacted into his small furry body. He is great at fetch and playing with toys, by himself, with other dogs and also with humans. Wookie has a bit of that Yorki bossy personality but it is easily kept in check. Wookie is quite vocal about activities going on outside the home along with one of our other dogs. We’ve been “shhhh” training him (if he stops barking and sits quietly next to us, he gets 1 treat) and he’s been taking to it really well. He also knows sit, touch (nose to the palm of the hand), on, off (as in get off) and swirl (spin in a counter clock wise circle). We see him doing really well at agility training, if his forever home family is so inclined. Wookie is working on his relationship with the vacuum and also with the rain, neither are presently his favorite. He’s been doing really well with house training and we see his successful continuation of it too. Wookie also does really well around younger and bigger dogs as well as senior dogs. He would do well in both a home that has other dogs or as a single dog. He’s not a dog park sort of dog, because he will be your personal security guard, but he would do well with someone who likes to take him on leashed walks and continue his leash manner training. We've been doing clicker training with him on walks and we use positive reinforcement training with him. A home with space for him to play (inside and out) would be his dream home. Wookie would succeed best in a house vs apartment. An ideal home would also be with someone who is around (retired or working from home); he likes to hang out with his pack. Wookie would do really well around kids older than 12 as well as around adults who love to cuddle with their pup and watch TV or sleep. He is a strong cuddle bug with his people and other dogs who will let him cuddle with them. His sleeping positions are something to watch as he gets into all sorts of funny positions. He is crated when we have to step out of the house and we also crate him for meals for positive association with the crate. This super smart dog definitely knows the difference between the two crate times too! His run is adorable; every approximate third stride he picks up his back left leg and it skips a step. It’s his signature move! We found Wookie roaming the streets of Fairfield, with no microchip and no one claimed him after a long and extensive search. We cannot keep him as we already have a few dogs. We want to help him find a forever home, he deserves a wonderful forever home with his forever family.

PLEASE SUBMIT APPLICATION FORM before emailing. ADOPTION and FOSTER forms can be printed from our website: wrenyorkierescue.org or completed online at Adoptapet. Soon after we receive your completed paperwork, we will chat and help you determine which dog[s] you and your family members want to interview at your home or other convenient location. We will schedule a convenient visit time [about an hour or so] so the potential new family member[s] including other dogs in the household, and you can relax and get to know each other. If all goes well, you can expect to take the selected dog home with you after signing your Adoption Agreement and paying the fee; or for Fosters, after signing the Foster Agreement. If at any time within 30 days you determine that your routine and expectations DO NOT match the dog's needs and requirements, Rescue will take the dog back and refund $375 of the $400 Adoption Fee. Rescue WILL ALWAYS at any time take back an adopted pet who isn't fitting in well, but no refund can be issued after 30 days.

Adoption Process

Our adoption fee is $400/adult dog, $650/puppy (sometimes adjustable on an individual basis); payable in installments if necessary--checks for the full amount must be given before a dog can be placed with you.

Steps: 1. read the dog's "back story" carefully to determine which pet might be a good fit for your situation and expectations. 2. send an EMAIL to WrenYorkieRescue@aol.com & include your COMPLETE CONTACT INFO: Phone, address, City & Zipcode or visit www.wrenyorkierescue.org to print your forms; 3. Read carefully, complete and return all sections of the application; 3. Allow us time to contact the people you have listed as references who know you as a pet guardian. 4. We will call to clarify understanding of responses and give you the opportunity ask additional questions; 5. A visit to your home will be scheduled to meet you and all people who will potentially be involved in the dog's daily life at your location, and to observe the dog's reactions to those people and your space as well as dog/human interaction and "chemistry".

If all seems right, the full adoption fee will be collected and you will be given an Adoption Contract & asked to initial each numbered section to indicate having read & understood. Rescue will take back the dog at any time during the next 30 days if it is discovered not to be the right match, and all but $25 of your adoption fee will be returned. Rescue will also take back a dog after 30 days, but without a refund.

You must be able to meet the dog's medical, physical and emotional needs, and agree to return the dog to a Rescue- NOT a shelter-if at any time your circumstances alter and you are no longer able to care for the dog. This Rescue will come to collect the dog if you are unable to bring it yourself, and we MUST be notified if the dog changes owners or residence. Call or text 510-610-0291 or email wrenyorkierescue@aol.com
