My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Beautiful Bella is an almost 9 year old, 5.5 pound Yorkie sweetheart. Bella has some special needs. She is being fostered in Jacksonville, FL.

UPDATED BIO 02/25/2019: Bella spent the first 8 years of her life with her one mommy. Then sadly one day her mommy died and Bella went to live with a family that were relatives of her mommy. As much as Bella wanted a new family, this was not the right family for her. They surrendered this sweet girl to UYR so that we could find the perfect forever home for her.

On Bella's initial exam, a heart murmur Grade 4/6 was detected. She recently had an echocardiogram which confirmed that her heart murmur is due to Mitral Valve Regurgitation (MVD) – this means that her mitral valve is not working like it's supposed to. The vets said that the MVD is considered mild at this time and she doesn’t currently need any treatment/meds, but it may worsen over time. Here’s what Miss Bella had to say about her diagnosis:

Bella here. I’m not sure what the doggie doctors are talking about with my heart ‘cause I feel just fine. I really like jumping and playing with Foster Mom and dancing around the house. I also enjoy going out in the yard to do Fence Border Patrol and I’m really good at it. The smells are too good to ignore! I still have problems where they did my spay surgery and now have a few staples while it heals. Hopefully they will be gone soon. My appetite is better and I am now eating more and gaining some weight. I am looking for a forever home with a person who will give me lots of love and belly rubs. In turn, I will give them lots of kisses and tail wags. I love being with my person all the time, and I also like to go for walks.

The dogtors say I may develop more heart problems in the future, but for now I'm active and looking for love. If you are interested in me (and how could you not be?) and understand my special needs, please submit an adoption application and let’s see if I can be part of your family. I would love to have a furever home where someone is home most of the time since I love being next to my human – a lot!

PLEASE NOTE: Bella can only be adopted into a home with no large dogs or children under the age of 14 years old.
