My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Athena is a true gentle giant with her soft eyes and love of pats, belly rubs, hugs, kisses, and cuddles. A companion animal through and through, she is overflowing with unconditional love. Athena is extremely personable with people of all ages and genders. She willingly goes up to receive pats and scratches (even hidden treats!). It is thought that she must think she is human! This pretty gal is a total ham, who wants nothing but to give and receive love and approval. Athena is a fantastic Doberman mix who is about 4 years old and 76 pounds. She is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on all vaccinations and flea medication. Circumstances have her person not able to give Athena all she needs as they are moving out of state, so they have asked for help to find Athena a forever home.

• She recently had a teeth cleaning, and is overall really healthy.
• She is polite with other dogs but prefers time with her people.
• Sometimes she will play.
• She is also great on the leash, but if she feels threatened by another dog she might get slightly defensive.
• Athena walks slowly, taking that extra time to smell the roses.
• She doesn’t pull, but every once in a while she will do a little trot to catch up or smell the next best thing ahead.
• She enjoys runs and hikes as well. Athena is house trained, and knows her commands for sit, lie down, and go to bed.
• She LIVES for food, so extra attention should be brought to counter tops and the kitchen trashcan.
• She does respond well when being told to wait until her dish is down for her to come eat.
• She enjoys longer lasting treats, such as bully sticks or bones.
• Athena is good with cats; she’s partially interested but leaves them be after an introduction.
• Athena is also fine with living with another dog – she has lived with an Australian Cattle dog.
• She is great with sharing toys, and even her own bed! Durable squeaky toys are her favorite.
• Due to her life conditions before being rescued, Athena does not do well in a crate.
• She may bark if she feels she is confined and alone.
• Overall, she is not very vocal with her bark.
• She is good with car rides, but she can get nervous from time to time.
• Athena would do best in a home where her people are there a majority of the day, or can take her with them.
