My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

5/4/19 - I'VE BEEN ADOPTED!

Adoption Fee: $100
Fostered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Age: 12 years
Weight: 4 lbs.

4/7/19 - Ariel had her appointment at LSU and it has been determined that she likely does have something neurological going on, which is the reason she walks in a circle at times. The testing needed to attempt to determine the cause would be an MRI and Spinal Tap. Taking into account her age, the risk associated with doing a spinal tap, and the fact that this "circling" is not hindering her in the least, we have decided not to move forward with this testing at this time. If her symptoms change or it begins to hinder her quality of life in any way, we may discuss this testing again.

3/13/19 - Ariel now has an appointment with LSU Internal Medicine department for 3/26/19. Hopefully we will know a little more about what is going on with her after this appointment. We will not have an estimate on her testing until that day, but realize that it could be at least $1,500 depending no the testing they decide to do once we get there.

3/6/19 - Ariel was surrendered to us when her mom had too much on her plate and was gone long hours leaving Ariel home alone too much. Upon arrival to her foster home, we brought her to the vet because we noticed that she would walk in a circle to the left a lot in between walking straight. We did find out that she had a bad infection in her left ear and that she is basically blind in her right eye; but bile acids were also done because neuro signs can be a sign of a liver shunt.

Bile acids were elevated so further testing is necessary to rule out a shunt vs another liver issue. To definitively get an answer on what is going on and the treatment that would be needed, we are setting up an appointment with Baton Rouge Veterinary Specialists for additional testing, i.e., ultrasound, CT, or whatever they determine is necessary. We are also starting Ariel on Denamarin and a hepactic food which is usually the first step in assisting these type cases.
