My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Duncan, a one year old black lab mix as social as can be! If you're a Labrador fan, this guy is about as "labby" as they come! This 60 lb. hunk of love came to us from the Humane Society of Southern Illinois. He is sweet as can be and enjoys the company of all people and dogs. He is still working on his manners, as his enthusiasm can make him more akin to a bull in a China shop than a pet dog, although we haven’t seen a mean bone in his body.

This boy LOVES toys, and balls specifically. This dog will fetch until your arm falls off. Also highly food motivated, we see nothing but good things for what is possible for Duncan in training. He has already gotten a good concept of "sit," "down," and "place" and will work well when focused on food or a toy. He is currently in a training program at Found Training Center in Chicago where he is learning all about how to be a good boy. We are working on building up his focus and obedience to a level where he can hold a solid "stay" and be sent to his kennel on command.

Duncan really enjoys playing with other dogs and currently socializes in playgroups daily. He likes to roughhouse like any good young lab, so dogs in his home should be understanding of that or enjoy playing with other dogs as well. Duncan was curious during his cat test, but did respect the kitty's space, so we would recommend that his adopter be experienced in managing cats and dogs in the home if his new home were to have one.

As energetic and playful as Duncan is, he is very calm in a crate or kennel and keeps his space clean. We anticipate he would be easy to housebreak in a home setting. We would recommend older children for Duncan, as he is quite large and excitable, although it is always friendly.

Duncan's adoption comes with a FREE group course at Found Training Center so that his new family can learn all about his skills. Please contact brittney@caninesandcompany.org for more info on Duncan or fill out an application to meet him.
