My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello! I’m Gladys and I'm an adorable and sweet gal looking for my furever home!

I was rescued in February from a vacant lot in East Harlem. I was clearly dumped and possibly abused and spent about two weeks outdoors in the cold, fending for myself. The other colony cats were bullying me because I was so small (and I think they were jealous of how cute I am!).

My rescuer found me when checking on a colony of feral kitties she looks after. Imagine her surprise when, all of a sudden, she heard me bellowing from behind the fence and saw me, a tiny, scrawny little thing. I was SO hungry and tried to eat a CLOSED can of cat food. Once I was safe indoors my rescuer named me Gladys Knight, after the singer, because if I wasn’t singing so beautifully, and loudly, from behind the fence she never would’ve known I was there. I’m now living with a foster mom a few blocks from where I was found.

Purrsonality:
My cat sitter once referred to me as “a character.” I’m tiny but feisty, and I have a bad case of RDF (Resting Diva Face). But really I’m a love bug! I love to be in the same room as my foster mom and enjoy sitting next to her on the couch or sleeping on the floor next to her bed. When she cooks, I like to rub against her legs. Lately, I’ve even been napping on the bed with foster mom and her resident cat. I enjoy receiving pets on my head but am still getting used to cuddling. With time, foster mom thinks I’ll be an excellent lap cat.

I love the finer things in life, like bread, butter, cheese, and catpuccinos — so guard your breakfast when I’m around! (Foster mom thinks maybe I was French in a previous life; I would look adorable in a berret! 😹) Since I shouldn’t eat these foods, you’ll have to keep an eye on me in the kitchen.

I also love to hunt. Small catnip mice, balls with bells, and cat dancers are my favorite toys. I also like to find hair ties (and the occasional bottle cap) at night. I leave them on the floor next to foster’s mom bed as little gifts since she isn’t as good at hunting as I am!

I’m a very easy kitty to care for! I’m very clean and neat. I always use my litter box and never scratch any furniture, just my two scatchers. I lick my bowls clean and don’t leave leftovers.

My purrfect home:
I’d be happiest in a quiet home where I can get lots of attention. When I get overly excited or don’t get enough playtime I’m prone to nibbling on toes and ankles, so I’d probably be better with patient, experienced cat parents in an adults-only home or with older children. I might be OK with other pets. I currently have a foster brother — a senior, male cat — whom I get along with most of the time. I was very scared of him at first, but now I like to chase him and wrestle. Sometimes he tries to give me a bath, and I’m not sure how I feel about that, but I don't hold a grudge. I recently met a small dog and although I didn’t get too close, I was smitten.

If you’re looking for a feisty, gorgeous little lady to join your family, send us a message. I’d love to meet you! 💖
