My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Everyone meet our handsome and ultra personable Rocky Road! This attractive boy was rescued from Union County Animal Control in Southern, IL very much resembling a stocky and strong black bear cub. He weighs in at a lean 65 pounds and appears to be an English-style, dare-we-say *purebred*, lab that was picked up as a stray and brought to the shelter. Maybe he wandered away from his hunting partner, never to be found again. We don't know much about his past, but we are sure happy to have met this big lug.

Rocky Road is definitely what one could consider a purpose-bred working lab. He ADORES any activity that is toy related; "fetch," "tug," you name it, he's in! Since we met Rocky, we noticed his tendency to work, and work HARD. He is an "up-for-anything" kind of guy and hasn't yet come across an activity he didn't like. If you're looking for a running, hiking, or simply life partner, this loyal boy could easily fit in as a buddy. We even see this hardworking lab excelling at dog sports, such as agility or dock diving, even scent detection like search and rescue. His confidence is almost unparalleled. However, to the contrary, if this big boy does not have his exercise needs met, he may not make the best house pet, so couch potatoes need not apply.

Despite his exercise needs, Rocky has done well in a home setting. He is both crate trained and house broken. As long as this sweet boy has a bone to chew or a kong to toss, he is a great house dog. He hasn't met a person he doesn't like, although we recommend older children for this happy-go-lucky boy, since he is quite large and sometimes forgets that. He does great with other dogs, especially female dogs. We do not recommend Rocky go to a home with cats or small animals, as his prey drive is quite high. Overall, Rocky has a super solid temperament; confidence and brains to boot, and he is looking for the kind of home that will both cherish and challenge him.

When we first met Rocky, he was heart worm positive and has since completed his treatment. His adopter will receive his remaining heart worm prevention for the year to ensure he continues to stay healthy. He has worked on his basic obedience training at Found Training Center and his adoption fee comes with a FREE GROUP COURSE upon his adoption.
