MEET GOLDIE! She is one of 20 dogs rescued by UYR from a horrendous puppy mill in Southern Georgia. Goldie is a Maltese who is 3 years old and weighs 9 lbs. She is being fostered in Freeport, FL.
UPDATED BIO 04/19/2019: Glorious Goldie has learned what life is outside of the horrible puppy mill where she spent her entire life. She is now sleeping in a soft comfortable dog bed in her foster home, with food and water available to her. She has mastered the art of drinking water out of a bowl, and is now eating her meals out of a bowl as well, which wasn’t always the case in the puppy mill. Foster Mom says that she is the sweetest and most adorable dog that she has fostered in a long time. Goldie loves playing with toys - especially balls - and goes outdoors to do her business and has rare accidents in the home. She follows Foster Mom everywhere and when she can’t find her, she will bark until Foster Mom comes and gets her. It is our goal that Goldie’s memories of the horrendous life she had before will fade away and she will know nothing but love, comfort and kindness for the rest of her life.
Goldie is still traumatized at the turn of events in her young life, and it will take her some time to fully trust humans. Goldie is so shy of new noises or experiences that she is currently considered to be a flight risk until she adapts to her new furever home and environment. She is still very shy and timid and is fearful of being picked up, but once she is in your lap, she snuggles in. She gets along with the resident dogs in the home and looks for them to teach her what to do. It will take time for Goldie to be totally trusting, but she is definitely on her way towards that goal.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING RESTRICTIONS:
- Goldie has let her Foster Parents know that she needs another doggie companion in her adoptive home to show her the ropes of being a beloved family member and to be her buddy.
- Goldie can only be adopted into a home where there is a secure fenced-in yard – absolutely no exceptions will be made.
UPDATED BIO 03/12/2019: Glorious Goldie is learning what life is outside of the horrible puppy mill where she spent her entire life. Since this property was operating as a puppy mill, inhumanely breeding dogs to sell for profit, many of these dogs were highly sought-after small breeds, and there were a hundred or so yorkshire terriers, maltese and yorkie/maltese mixes, in addition to many other small breed dogs.
Goldie is now sleeping in a soft comfortable dog bed in her foster home, with food and water available to her. She is learning how to drink water out of a bowl, and is now eating her meals out of a bowl as well, which wasn’t always the case in the puppy mill. Foster Mom says that she is the sweetest and most adorable dog that she has fostered in a long time. In just over a week, she is playing with toys, goes outdoors to do her business and has rare accidents in the home. She follows Foster Mom everywhere and when she can’t find her, she will bark until Foster Mom comes and gets her. The UYR members that pulled Goldie were shocked and saddened at the inhumane conditions in which these dogs were living. The property had more than 700 dogs being housed in a warehouse in too-small crates – with more than one dog per crate, and stacked one on top of the other. A majority of the dogs pulled were suffering from malnourishment, sores and abrasions, severe dental disease, matted hair, infections, severe eye injuries, congenital diseases and general severe neglect. The smell alone of the poor dogs was enough to cause a person to be nauseous and these dogs lived 24/7 365 days a year in this environment.
Please watch for updated postings on all 20 dogs from the puppy mill that came into UYR and who are being fostered in Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky. This was a huge endeavor that took a lot of supportive members who all volunteered their time and without our amazing fostering members, we would not have been able to save so many. UYR is very proud and humbled to have participated in bringing happiness and new lives and love to 20 little doggies.
